Wow, going 1-11 will sure kill discussion in the footbal forum. We're four days from kick off and all you can hear in here are crickets chirping.

Hopefully we'll surprise a few people and win some games and people will start posting again. This is depressing...:embarassed:

It's a perfect storm of several things:

Coming off a losing season where the biggest star the program has had was jettisoned (even if rightly so);

No information coming from the program. We don't even have a freaking depth chart out;

No promotion coming from the school on the program. Look at how much actual content has been posted on GoSycamores;

Then mix that in with an already apathetic fan base and they care even less.

---

On a side note, see this from 2013: http://www.sycamorepride.com/showthread.php?27432-Where-is-everybody

If people don't post, nobody will start talking on here to boot. I can't post everything, which it feels like I do.

Serious question, where does Sanford rank when it comes to a lack of information? We announce a scrimmage, but its closed to the public and media, I see interviews with him from the school and he always says the same cliche things and talks without saying much of anything, I rarely see him do outside media stuff, just a video here and there from the school.

I know many coaches like to keep things close to the vest, but our staff seems to take it to another level. Am I wrong on that or right? I watch a lot of college football but I am the type of guy who never watches pre game, post game or halftime stuff so I admit I don't have a lot to compare it too when it comes to other programs and coaching staffs.

Perhaps he doesn't have anything to talk about yet. I mean, if he talks about how good we're doing, and then we fall on our face, everyone gets pissed. If he downplays us, a la Lou Holtz, everyone gets mad that he's bad mouthing his own team. Kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sort of thing.

If we could win a few and look good even in our losses, I bet he has more to say...

There are valid questions and comments in this thread that could be asked during the coach's radio program if someone is there and the format allows a Q and A segment.

I posted this in another thread, but it isn't all on Coach.

The promotions team has been a MAJOR let down. You're telling me they didn't do a puff piece of Underwood? Sewall? Thurman? UNACCEPTABLE.

They could have filled in the gaps of the staff keeping things close to the vest with personal interest pieces. I'm sure we have kids on the team that have interesting stories. Cover them. Other schools do.

Come now, Jason. That would require looking at this whole thing from a marketing perspective. At ISU, we don't do that. Or pep rallies.

Did we hire Sanford to coach or to market a team in a city where there is no passion for ISU football? For as much as Prettyman is praised (and rightfully so for the most part) who from a leadership level should be pressing the school to market its sports teams better?

Both. It's part of the job.

Good question. This does fall at Prettyman's feet and he has failed pretty damn hard there. He should demand more out of athletics marketing and promotions.

Agreed! There are many interesting stories that could be written or promoted. Junior Berry and his new challenge to come back stronger from injury... Gary Owens and Logan Buck's adaptation to the Wabash Valley climate.... Matt Adams transformation from high school to college lineman. The transfer from Navy.... Walk ons like Deady and Stratten (all state) who won't even join practice until next week.

Lots to write about. Lots to market. If you want ISU football to become major, it starts at the grass roots and goes all the way to the top.

I know Lee Davis is with the team. But upon best information and belief, a running back from Navy is transferring. Sounds like a possible scoop, Jason.

Cool, cool. I hadn't heard about him.

I know there is a slew of kids that should show up on the roster post September 1st when NCAA rules allow so I'm sure we'll find out then.

Kid from Navy supposed to be good? I mean, every transfer has us excited, but...

At least late arriving transfers this time of year tend to actually stick. How many have we had in January/February in recent years that never even saw the field for us, but initially drew a lot of excitement? Seems like there is at least one per season.
