It is obvious that the Lady Sycamores are struggling. Lately, blowing leads and losing close games has been the norm. So why are the Sycamores falling down. I think the "root" of the problem may lie with Coach Wiedie himself. I have not been very impressed with his decision making as of late or his lack of professional demeanor. He heavily recruited one of the best scorers in Illinois who despite lack of playing time, opposing defenses know she is a shooter. So why is he underutilizing the assets he has available to him that he worked so hard to get. You would think in a game where 3 pointers are needed in the final minutes you would put in your leading three point shooter. I followed this lady's career in high school and she had one of the most complete games that i saw out of any high school player in the state (shooting, defense, rebounding, passing, playmaking, etc).
Her former coaches said she spends hours in the gym constantly trying to improve her game and continues to do so. There are others on the team being underutilized as well.
I question the integrity of this coach. Has he been honest with his players or just tell them what he thinks they want to hear? One thing is for sure, changes need to be made. Whether it be the lineup or the coaching remains to be seen.
