Interesting possibilities opening up for MVC expansion. NMSU could be added, along with another team, to create divisions and add some power to the top of the conference. No, NMSU isn't Butler, but their basketball program hasn't been bad recently (I know they've been an NCAA team in the very recent past). Throw in a Belmont or Valpo or Oral Roberts (or, in a perfect world, Dayton) and it could help the profile of the conference.

Of course, I'm quite sure the MVC will sit around and do nothing until Wichita leaves, and then replace them with SIU-Edwardsville...

I can't see any scenario in which the N.M. State Aggies return to the MVC; it likely made sense when the Valley had members such as West Texas, North Texas and Tulsa but not today.

The decision for both the Vandals and Aggies future is centered on football. Both should make the PRUDENT decision and go the Big Sky route.

It's a good decision for the Sun Belt's member schools. They only expended because of the stupid rule and that travel alone probably cost their programs millions they don't have.

The blatant disregard of geography in the realignment/expansion has always been just utterly stupid.

Exactly - looks like the Sunbelt did it to share the $10M payout with 10, not 12 schools and affiliate schools are EASY cuts. Sucks for both, football games expansion has created more harm than good

Not for the rich programs. They just get richer.

As for the MVC expansion talk, please no.

True but there ain't no rich (football rich) schools in the Sun Belt...

Agree on expansion chatter. 10 is the perfect size for a conference; allows for round robin schedule in all sports - the BEST method for determining a TRUE champion.

they were football only schools. they could have already been in the MVC

You want to ADD New Mexico State and IDAHO? The MVC is perfect at 10 schools; the 18 game, home & home schedule produces the TRUE champion... What does adding Idaho (helluva road trip...) and bring N.Mex St back provide the Valley??

I do not, neither in the MVC or MVFC. The cost of doing business alone is a show stopper. We already bitch about having to make multiple trips up North in the MVFC so you know our administration wouldn't support it, either.

That question was for niklz62... his post seemed to imply the inclusion of idaho & new mexico st into the mvfc without implications to the mvc...

but you're spot on... we cannot afford (and several other / most of the conference would struggle) to pay for travel to Moscow & Las Cruces...

I agree with that, however I believe the MVC needs to be open to adding QUALITY basketball programs to increase the strength of the conference, thus giving us more opportunities at Top 50 wins, and a better shot at at-large NCAA bids in the future...no, it wouldn't have helped us the last two years, but very well might have the two years before that...

Name a QUALITY basketball program that will increase the MVC's strength? Who's being replaced?

I didn't say we should replace anyone. But, off the top of my head, I'd look at Belmont, Valpo, Murray State, and I'd even talk to St. Louis and Dayton. Yeah, those last two would be long shots at best, but you never know if you don't ask. You could also look at Oral Roberts, NDSU, shoot, there's all kinds of places that would be a potential fit
