The Odum Level
So Golden's story on the post season and his take on attendance lead to a natural question. Why should we host if we get into a post season tournament if the students aren't going to show up? Why invest the money if attendance is still going to be pitiful?

On the other hand, would a post season appearance of any kind be enough to excite students and get them to attend, and get them excited enough to keep coming back next season? I hate to say it, but I doubt it. Most students will probably scoff at the CBI and CIT tournaments as if they're beneath their level of interest. Well get real! You're not at Kentucky or Kansas, but your school has a good team that could get even better.

In total agreement...

While it would be great to host an NIT, CBI or CIT game -- I'm more interested in getting picked for ANY post-season game -- we need more live-game experience; it's also a great way to build the program for next season and beyond.

I don't think a 1st round game of the NIT is worth $100,000, especially if we were matched with a college hoop no-name. Call it "market saturation" or whatever, but the NIT rates are far beyond reasonable cost-benefit to our program. Anyone that thinks we'd sell 7k tickets to see Sienna or Buffalo has had access to Marico Stinson's travel bag!

The N.I.T. used to be a top notch tournament...the Sycamores participated twice during the first two years of the Bird Era, losing to Houston & Otis Birdsong in a "Bird v. Birdsong" matchup @ Houston, and also losing to Rutger's & James Bailey on the East Coast in '78.

That was 30 yrs. ago...

Did you like that, egc? Seemed like a reasonable weekend campus thought...:)

We can't even get students to come to the conference games, how are we going to get kids to come to a tournament game at the HC. I was at the Bradley game the other day, and I was extremely disappointed in the turnout. The 3 students in the middle level above the band were pretty entertaining. All night those 3 were hollering at Jim Les to get off the court, and when we missed a free throw they would holler at Les, that it was his fault. They were hysterical to me and my grandmother.

ya cause i vaguely remember him ever in the class i was with him in

Stinson is averaging 26 min/gm on Kentucky Wesleyan's #1 ranked Division II squad. Playing in front of an avg 2,000 fans/gm, he's shooting 41% FG's, 2 reb, 1 assist and 11 PPG.
