What are your thoughts fellas? Will Jake and or Steve redshirt this coming season?

I personally expect them both to redshirt, I think that Jake as a big guy is probably a little raw and I am not sure that he is division one ready right out of the gates - that's not to say with an injury that they wont pull the redshirt. However right now I actually think they will put the rojo on him.

Steve - I suspect being a guard is a little more skilled and prepared for this level of hoops. I think that naturally guards tend to have a easier time adjusting to college basketball. With our depth at guard I suspect that Steve will redshirt also. It just makes sense for him to at this point, although I would be less surprised if they let him play and redshirted Jake.

With all this being said I have never seen either of these guys play personally. Only have to go based on what I have read and heard about these guys. I think they will both eventually contribute to the Sycamores, but neither is ready to go right away.

Only time will tell - what do you guys think?

Do we have the depth to RS jake? I see jake more of a 5 paired with walkerat the 5. RJ and isiah are 4s. Who else am I missing in frontcourt?

We could get by with Jake redshirting, but it would be another year with poor depth up front.

If (and that's if) Walker is our primary center, then we could rest him with RJ or Martin. Martin can definitely block some shots in there and RJ could pull his man outside to open up the lane.

Thats REALLY thin in the frontcourt. If Walker gets in foul trouble thats even more scary. Makes for great specualtion by all of us though.

Don't forget that Koang has the length to play the 4 on the defensive end...hopefully he put on another 5-10 lbs as well.

Additionally, Carl Richard has played the majority of the minutes at the 4 for the last few years.

No inside info here but I'll take a guess that McW redshirts but Kitchell plays. I'll agree that McW may be more ready for Div I hoops but ISU appears to be loaded at his position (barring freaking injuries like last season). I think Kitchell is more of a need and seems be an upgrade to what has been seen the past couple years at the post position. The post doesn't necessarily need to score for this team but they do need to be able to board and defend. I think Kitchell can do these things well enough.

It will be an interesting thing to watch tho...

I would need to see Martin, RJ and Walker before I would say. But, as a senior, I hope Martin is ready to battle.

Seems like I remember someone saying SMcW is the best defensive guard we have. Is that a factor???
:sycamores::sycamores::sycamores:

I had heard something to that effect also and I also have heard pretty positive things about his transition, however unless you play him as the 3rd PG option in the event that Kelly or Odum has foul trouble or get's hurt I just don't see it.

As of now it looks like Kelly will start at guard and they will bring Odum first off the bench... In that case move Kelly to the 2 and take out likely Printy or Lathan.

I like Jake, I've watch him play live twice.....he has a great future at ISU....if we need him to win now....let's not RS him. However, I believe he and ISU would benefit if he does RS. He'll get stronger.....heck, I don't even think he's done growing....he may even grow another inch....he'll get exposed to some great Div I practices, and he'll learn to shoot from beyond and inside the arc....we not only need him to be a center that can pass and play defense....we need a center who can score anywhere on the floor....a RS will help him develop some of the offensive skills, we so despeartely need from a big man...
