They are trying to kill college sports with this, NIL and the portal.
NIL and the portal are good, or will be good once properly used.

How many times did we see kids get recruited to a school, and then the coach bails for another job and the kids are stuck unless than want to sit on the bench for a year?

I will agree that NIL as "pay to play" isn't great, the but pre-NIL system was also outdated and we can't go back to that.

Bilas is such a self important prick. They would end up losing money if this became the P5 invitational. People watch because of Cinderella.

At some point it's coming, though. I still think we get excluded from the NCAA tournament and they give us (80% of NCAA D-I) the NIT.

We need to follow the Big East model. The new Big East saw that eventually they'd be kicked out of their own conference and left themselves early enough to negotiate keeping the "Big East" name.

If everyone except the P5 voluntarily pull out now, we might be able to keep " March Madness" for our tournament and force the all P5 one to have new branding

This is where it would be nice for the ACC and other perennial basketball powers to stand up and tell the Big Ten and SEC to fuck off. Take football. We'll take basketball.

But they won't. Just like how everyone rolled right the fuck over on all of the autonomy measures that started this path on hyper course.

While off topic a bit... the truckload$, er... $HIPLOAD$ of ca$h that will flow into Big Ten and $ec coffer$ will con$olidate leverage into 2 league$

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...conferences-notre-dame-agree-new-playoff-deal

In a nut$hell, the new Fball Payoff Deal look$ like thi$:

The financial distribution for the expected 14-team playoff will look radically different that its playoff predecessor.

Moving forward, annually…

Big Ten $21M+ per school

SEC $21M+ per school

Current ~$5.5M per “Power 5 league” school

ACC $13M+

Big 12 $12M+

Notre Dame $12M+

Group of Five schools' <$1.8M up from the current $1.5M.

Sources tell ESPN there will be a financial incentive for any independent team that reaches the CFP. (There will no longer be a participation bonus for any of the other leagues - a detail that was frustrating to some leaders in the Group of 5.) According to numerous sources, American Athl Conf Commissioner Mike Aresco was the most outspoken critic of the plan but wasn't able to garner enough support from other commissioners to fight it.
