I saw Carroll (PU) again yesterday. He is ok, but i wonder, since he is rated higher than Kitchell by most people, how he is better. I won't see Kitchell unitl the top 40, but I wonder if his rateing is lower because his stats are so high and it is believed that he is not playing good competition. If this is the case, he is not being rated on his abilities and talents.

I have seen Travis play maybe 10 to 12 times over his HS career. He's not bad, but IMHO overrated. Granted, I have not seen him in tournament games this year, so I can't speak of his impact there. Prior to that, I'm not overly impressed. Certainly he is good--just nota Big 10 dominating big guy.

W/ the exception of the John Walls out there -- Isn't it better to see how FROSH play in college??

Naa in my expert opinion Jake Odum will be fine... The only question that he needs to answer for me is his shot, other than that I know he can play PG in college. lol

Seeing how they play in college is the only way to which is the better player. I'm not saying that one is better than the other. Both are being given the opportunity to play D1 college basketball. That makes them both pretty darned good as judged by their HS careers. Will they both be successful at the next level? One plays for a #1 AAA team, the other for a A team. Which one plays the best competition or has the best supporting cast? Which one is expected to carry the bulk of the load for his HS team? Does a deep tournament run determine who is the best player? One was recruited to play in the Big 10; one was recruited to play a similar position in the Valley--is that an indicator of ability or publicity or both? Do any or all of these things determine the success of either collegiate career? Wouldn't it be great if they got to meet on the court during their college careers?

I just tire of the alledged 'experts' when it comes to recruiting; nitpicking games during and after is one thing but the recruiting stuff? I just ignore it -- prefer to see how they do once they're enrolled, eligible and playing.

Understood and I don't disagree. And even the real experts don't get it right every time. It is easy to get a kid who doesn't live up to expectations. And it's easy to miss one who turns out to be a pretty good ballplayer (like Harry).

Well, after I see him play at the top 40, I won't give a darn what the "experts" say. But I want to talk about it now.

better than what?

Not sure what you are asking, I am not saying he is better than anyone. What I am saying is that Jake Odum will be a player for us, he is going to start at PG for us next season as a red shirt freshman - pretty convinced of that at this point. We are going to see what he can do early and often.

Sorry. I quoted the wrong post.

the top 40 is such an artificial enviroment with so many agendas floating round, it usually tells you nothing. the format favors the guards anyway.

and what does better mean?
