An incredible opening day for ISU's Dakota Bacus. Bacus pitched eight commanding innings, striking out THIRTEEN, walking two (both in the ninth) and giving up just four hits--all with two outs! Bacus had some problems in the eighth, hitting one batter and throwing a wild pitch. Bacus got the win. Duh! With two outs in the ninth, Bacus was running out of gas having thrown 127 pitches and gave up two consecutive walks...but got a fly-out to Hileman to end a complete game! Bacus got the win. Duh!

Offensively, Purple Aces starter Cole Isom subdued the Sycamores--compared to their usual production. ISU got nine hits. Kinda average...don't you think? Lucas and Burnam were the only batters with two hits. Lucas also had both RBI with a sac fly in the fourth and a double in the seventh. Evansville's Isom pitched a complete game and gave up just nine hits and one walk. It was a great pitcher's duel tonight!

I predict that Dakota Bacus will be the MVC Pitcher of the Week!! But we're now hearing that MSU's Pierce Johnson had a complete game shutout against Creighton where he tossed 16 K's! So...do I hear co-pitchers of the week?

The game was ultra-fast-paced as it took just one hour and 57 minutes!

Indiana State (18-4, 1-0 MVC) has now won 13 straight games, matching their streak from the 2003 season for the third longest in school history. The 1985 ISU baseball team holds the school record with 17 consecutive wins while the 1987 squad won 16 in a row.

The game was ultra-fast-paced as it took just one hour and 57 minutes! Plus, this was the thirteenth straight win this season for The Sycamores, which ties a record set in 2003.

that deserves another "DUH"

Good to see the guys do well in a close game. Complete game, 4 hit shutout with 13 K's--should be good for POW unless someone threw a no hitter or a perfect game. I think it highly unlikely that happened.
Great job Trees!

18-4 on the season...but if you take out the opening weekend shutout, ISU is 18-1 since then. They beat a legit team tonight. If we can sweep the weekend, watch out! Let's hope Manaea is back to his 2011 form on the mound tomorrow afternoon.. When he is on, he is nails!

I have followed every ISU game since the start of the 2009 season and I DO NOT remember a pitcher's dual like this one. And, this is one of the top pitching performances by an ISU pitcher during that stretch, too! Maybe the best. You have to weight the quality of competition to make that decision.

bad news for Bacus and winning MVC pitcher of the week honors.

Pierce Johnson from MSU threw a 16 strikeout, 5 hit, complete game shutout at Creighton tonight. MSU won 3-0

He'll probably win, unless they do co-pitchers of the week??

That would be good. I think they both deserve it, don't you? Bacus gave up fewer hits and his team gave him 1 less run to work with. It will be interesting.

Unfortunately, the Pierce Johnson victory will trump Dakota bacus'! Very odd to have two superior performances in the league in the same week!

glad to see we get MSU in Terre Haute to end the MVC season, that could be quite the series to end the year

Another great win for the baseball team. Not a strong offensive game like we have had in the past but we got the win none the less. Take a win any way you can get it. Strong start to the MVC season and let's go back out there and pick up another W tomorrow afternoon.

GO Sycamores!!:sycamores:

Did Ort have any of his Warrick Co. supporters in the stands?:)

Helluva pitching performance...and the "D" stood tall to facilitate the feat. This team has those "special" ingredients...
