1. Zac VanDeWater 6’5 Whitko M+ Good shooter, solid handles, good defender although not super quick. Had a great July, shot very well and showed his complete game. Some muscle might improve his game greatly.

Jason, let's make sure we're getting Zac in the "offer" category. He was offered in July. He visited in June, and he is planning on visiting again October 24.

Posts above say not a shooter, not quick, not a jumper. I've seen him ranked as high as #1 sg in his class. What is he good at?

VanDeWater is a great jumper. That is without question. He's not a flashy kid, so while other kids are out there tossing up 3pters and trying to dunk, he's working on his game. He's an above average shooter who is a very good scorer. He is better off the dribble than off the pass, and he led an otherwise balanced team in scoring this past summer.

VanDeWater's team has added Justin Gant back to the roster. That's one more weapon, but it also frees Zac up to get most to all of his minutes at the wing, whereas a lot of times last year he had to play more of a 4th guard. He was the second leading rebounder behind Springmann.

It went well. More and more he's starting to understand how much the coaching staffs are going to be part of his college life, not just on the court.

Here are some links to recent game reports. Looks like VanDeWater is averaging about 15 pts per game as basically the second option...

One of the articles mentions that he scored of a put-back-dunk, so, I think he does have some hops.

VanDeWater and his Whitko squad lost to Wawasee in sectional play this past week. He had 10 points in the game. He averaged 15.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals on the season for Whitko.

Hard to believe he averaged that many rebounds. I watched him on youtube (last year's season) and he acted like he didn't even want a rebound. Very unimpressed.

So you're saying that you are really impressed with this guy's 5.5 rebounds? For comparison, Odum got 7 in the MIC from the PG position. You can set your standards lower if you want and swoon over every player out there, but we do have a choice in who we recruit.

Granted, I have not seem him enough to rate the whole package, last year was his sophomore season, and we might recruit him; BUT, I was making an observation for everyone's information. If he does come here, I hope he works out and I trust Coach's opinion.

If what you say about Odum is correct, you have to consider two things when you write what you did. For one, TH South is mostly all guards. BTW, VanDeWater is also a guard. It's also important to consider the number of possessions in a game for TH South is likely a great deal more than Whitko games. Not only that, knowing what TH South's offense is, you can bet a vast majority of Odum's rebounds were long rebounds.

I only bring up Odum because you did.

The point to all of this is you post in March of 2010 is based on YouTube clips you saw from his 2008-2009 season. It's not that I'm setting my standards lower, it's that I'm dealing in real time, and I understand the dynamics of both Terre Haute South and Whitko.

Yeah Sycamorebacker to be quite honest...rebounds are a bit of luck...there's boxing out needed yes but large amount of luck involved still...
