Big names: Kos, Panico and Maher are all three-year starters in the backfield. Kos has been the most productive as the first read in the option, but Panico's 4.47-second speed in the 40-yard dash is drawing more interest from colleges. Illinois, Northwestern and Notre Dame are among those recruiting Panico, while Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Indiana State are interested in Kos.

Wonder if Matt Maher is any relation to former Sycamore linebacker Dan Maher....

Dan played at ISU in the 1980s and was a promising inside linebacker before suffering a bad knee injury against Maryland. He started for the Sycamores in that game. He was never quite the same physically after the knee injury. He was an outstanding tackler.

Kos would be a nice get for us. I've seen him play a couple of times--very hard-nosed, vertical runner and smart. Carmel Mundelein is another great program. I'd like to see us get some linemen from Carmel, Mt. Carmel, St. Rita, Maine South, or Wheaton South. These are all elite programs year after year in the Chicago area, and the kids coming out of these schools are very well coached.

ISU has had guys from St. Rita, Mt. Carmel before.....

as a matter of fact, one of my all-time offensive guards at Indiana State, Tony Suriano, played for St. Rita.

Yep, we've also had some recently--Jack Byrne from St. Rita and Pat Burke from Maine South. The key is to find the 250-260 guys who are tough and can grow to 290-300. These usually fall under the radar of the big schools.
