With Khristian Smith in the fold, will be interesting to see if they continue to go after Jones or another player.

If I were Coach, I'd wait until spring and get the best available (assuming they are good enough). We have 4 next year so we can target positions with some of those.
Jones has had an offer for a long time and is looking for something "better." That kind of makes me not crazy about him.
If we can get our foot in the door in Indy, we can get a good one by spring, maybe.

I like the best available too...only I will qualify that to be the best available wide bodied five.

When I say best available, I'm looking at mainly guards/wings. Do you realize that we lose Carter, Kelly, Printy, Richard, and Lathan for the 2012-13 season?
Of course we have a hard time getting good centers, so i would always take one if available and redshirt him if I didn't need him immediately. I wonder if we can get any more jucos like Walker? We have some young inside players but all of our perimeter players (except Odum and McWhorter) are done this year and next.
One thing is fairly certain. Gant could be our starting 4 for the next 4 years. That's a position have always have trouble filling.

Latest on him is he may be looking to go to prep school in hopes of boosting his stock. Looks like lowly ISU is not big enough of a program for him.

Was at the Top 60 workout today. Wasn't really impressed with him. Make a couple nice defensive plays, but I expected a better offensive game from him. He did stand open a couple times and the point didn't even look his way. I'd say the MVC is probably where his ceiling is, too. He looks like he has been in the weight room.

JONESING FOR PREP SCHOOL: Merrillville's Jeremiah Jones confirmed that he plans to attend Brewster Acadamy along with Bishop Noll's Adonis Filer. Both guards have D-I offers on the table but both are 17 and believe another year to grow would be good.

"I have offers from Indiana State and VCU," Jones said of Virginia Commonwealth, which shocked the nation by advancing to the NCAA's Final Four. "But they offered me before the season started. I did not know how good they were going to be."

he prep school option for Jones, who just turned 17, had an added bonus. He was so far ahead of other kids in his class academically that he skipped first grade and jumped ahead to second.

The talented shooting guard turned down offers from Indiana State, Northern Illinois, Valparaiso, Cleveland State, the College of Charleston and Virginia Commonwealth for only one reason. And Jones hopes playing prep school hoops in Milwaukee for one year will make it all happen.

"I want to play in the Big Ten," he said. "This will help me get back to my class, grow and mature physically. I think I can play at the Big Ten level, (but) I need to develop my game a little more."
