The Recruit Level
Just stopping in to say hello and let you know that my son officially committed to ISU today and will enroll this coming semester. We have lots of family in Terre Haute and have followed very closely what Coach Miles has done in a short period of time. Darrik wants to be a part of something special and I know he has made the right decision! We cant wait to get to know all of the TREES and help continue building a new legacy at ISU.

Thanks,

Jeff Martin

Congratulations and welcome to the ULTRA competitive world of FCS Football. The reality is that many programs have very comparable talent and good coaches. There is a fine line between 9-2 and 5-6. AND the world can get turned upside down in a hurry. ISU has all of the ingrediients for even more success but it needs to continue to recruit well, build depth, execute precisely and finish the seaon on an uptick.

My three favorite FCS teams (Richmond Spiders, Delaware Blue Hens and the Sycamores) are examples of how quickly things can and do change in FCS.

In 2008, Richmond won the DIv I National Title and was #1 most of 2009 before losing to eventual National Champion and fellow CAA member Nova. Two years later, Richmond goes 3-8 before turning it around with a new coach this year to 8-3. Co-Champions of the CAA, the Spiders did not get a bid to the playoffs. Even with 20 teams, it is darn difficult to get those at large bids.

Delaware is National Runner Up in 2010 and misses the playoffs at 7-4 a year ago and goes 4-7 this season.

ISU has risen to a very respectable level and continues to improve. It does not mean there won't be a bump in the road because the MVFC is full of teams that are capable of winning each week. But that is a lot better than spending $80 to watch Alabama play Western Carolina!! Although I might have paid $70 to watch Wofford scare the daylights out of South Carolina again this season.

Welcome aboard, and I really enjoyed the videos of your son!

Back in the 70's, Indiana State had a long and rich history of having talented Pennsylvania High School players come to ISU.

I don't know how that pipeline started, but it definitely thinned over time, and consequently...so did a lot of our gridiron success!

Let's hope that Darrik's choice of INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL, causes an avalanche of other tough and successful PA HS Football players to come to ISU!!!

My favorite PA athlete(wrestling and football)was a friend, Bob Pychinka, who lived on the same floor as me. Bob and his roommate and me and my roommate had some good times in the Deming Hotel when it was used as a dorm.

I am confused is he from Ca or PA? The video says PA but the heading says Ca

PIN4WIN: Does Darrik still plan on walking on now that Miles has left?

As of today we have not heard from coach as to his interest level in Darrik. His heart always wanted to play at ISU. Darrik has left several messages for coach Sanford, but unfortunately none have been returned. At this point Darrik is making plans on playing at another university or joining our California State juco champion Bakersfield Renegades. ISU is nowhere out of the picture, but history shows Sanford wants qb's making plays with their feet as well as their arm, and Darrik is more of a pocket guy. That could be why we have not heard from coach. Exciting time for ISU though and I really like the Sanford hire!

I think this is a "dead" period, not sure if contact is allowed... Whistle goat knows ALL the rules, send him a message.

We originally thought that as well. Darrik is friends with a few ISU commits on twitter and those players have spoken with Coach. Also, I have left a message for him as well and I believe he can call parents.

Thanks for the heads up though.

If that young man wants to come here I sure want him!

Either way you should get a call and I hope it comes soon. That would not sit well with me as a fan if our coaching staff is being neglectful.
