Threw the team's stats into my spreadsheet this morning to get the first set of PER ratings after 5 games. Here is the first edition of the Sycamore's pace-adjusted player efficiency rating.

14.24 - Brenton Scott
10.28 - Everett Clemons
06.58 - Matt Van Scyoc
06.17 - Brandon Burnett
05.94 - Niels Bunschoten

14.32 - Grant Prusator
13.67 - Khristian Smith

Thanks Jason. The last 3 guys on this list continue to play limited minutes but have given us next to nothing. I would be in favor of Lansing shortening his bench a little bit and letting the top 8 guys on this list go to work!

I believe he usually shortens the bench in conference. Prusator and Page are 4-5 in depth at guard, so their minutes will be low. If Murphy and Rickman can avoid foul trouble, there won't be many minutes for Neils. I think we need BB for depth at forward.

I disagree when it comes to Paige. I feel like because of his limited minutes, he hasn't had a chance to contribute much...I haven't seen his defense be all that terrible and his passing has impressed, talk about a pass-first guard.

Agree. I think Prusator and Paige can both help, but we have 3 guards ahead of them. They need to be ready next year.

We wil, at times, run a 3 guard offense. I could see a role for Prusator and Paige. one for offense and the other primarily for his defense. We will have to wait and see how it plays out.

Atleast Grant has shown the ability to come in and make a shot or two. He doesn't give us much on D though.

As for Paige, we must be watching a different game. Not sure what you all have seen from him that would suggest he is going to give us anything?! Talked about it in the off season and people were like, "oh no he looked good last year before he got hurt". I call bull shit.

Pass first guard... That's just great. Come into the game and look to make a play, swinging the ball is not enough for me to credit you as a "pass first guard". Anyone could go out and swing the ball. I've seen him make one really good pass and it was on dribble drive - bounce pass to Murph vs. IUPUI. So yeah he is a capable passer but you got to so it more than once every 5 games to earn PT.

you can get rid of one of those guards...Brown. He plays totally out of control, takes bad shot, turns the ball over and only drives the basket toward the end of the game after it has been lost. I think those guards should get more playing time, they couldn't do any worse. I would love to see Lansing replaced. This "team" looks totally disoriented.

Have no idea what pops out these numbers, but they really do a good job of showing true value to the team. Stats only tell a portion of the story....If I had to rank our players performance from watching every game this season this is damn close to what it would look like....also these numbers would probably back up we have nobody performing at an all conference level. I'd love to see what our final numbers the past two seasons were based on this system

The Player Efficiency Rating (PER) is a per-minute rating developed by ESPN.com columnist John Hollinger. In John's words, "The PER sums up all a player's positive accomplishments, subtracts the negative accomplishments, and returns a per-minute rating of a player's performance."

Yeah i have seen him use it..I just am interested in how it computes things. Is it situtional like the qbr in football or bpi to where if the game is a blow out stats matter less? How does a dead ball TO compare to a live one? Just interesting considering you can watch a game and these numbers reflect (for the most part) who I think played well or poorly.
