Gotta Hav

The Wade Level
Unless this is old news, or already reported, our big non-confernece game that year is against Tennessee.

That is unless RP gets us a bigger name opponent than that, in back-to-back games........

Should be an away game, that lots of Tree fans should be able to make from Indiana.

Don't see it on any schedules. I do know that we play Minnesota on Sept. 10 in 2016, so it would be a surprise to play Tennessee in the same year.

Lotta time between now and then; most schedules are fungible, especially between FCS and FBS

I've heard that we're playing Tennessee in the "near" future, not sure of the year. That's a game I might have to go see...

Now that's the wow factor............

INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY playing MINNESOTA and TENNESSEE in Back-to-Back games in 2016.

Now, if all of that really happens, five years from now......that's sum big time College Football, and scheduling!

PRETTYMAN FOR PRESIDENT!!!

:sycamores:

No, not of the University...the country!

Ha!

I don't see that as a good thing at all. Play one big school per year. Why get beat up twice other than to have two pay days? I want to keep our players healthy and win the conference every year.

Ok guys, it's 2011. in about 3 years we will look at 2016 and be very happy either way or the world won't exist because of 2012.

Hmmm -- just because the Mayans lost the last 5 pages from their calendar, the world is going to end?! :D

How many cans of tuna fish did you buy in December 1999?

Guess it depends on the progress of the program by that time. If Miles is still here (if he keeps building this program and winning, big schools are bound to court him) and has continued to build the program, getting "beat up" is not really a concern of mine.

Besides the benefits of the big payday, the national exposure for the program is something that is great on the recruiting trail and getting bigger and better players to come to Indiana State. Additionally, in terms of the money, it will allow us to retain coaches and put more back into facilities and recruiting, which will allow the program to continue to progress as well.

I agree Jason...

But let's hope that a nice portion of that money earned from playing so-called "money games" goes back into the football program.

In the past, and that's pre-Prettyman, the money went into a general athletic fund. The football program didnt see a lot, if any, of that money. Under one former AD, that money went to the women's hoops team and to the women's soccer team (for a practice field that was nicknamed "Sooner Field" after the Oklahoma game).

And before I receive many angry responses, yes, the money should be shared with the rest of the athletic department and other sports. But the key word is SHARED. And since the football players are the ones putting their bodies out there on the field to earn that payout, the biggest share should go back into the program.

Playing Tennessee hey?

That was reported on here, back in June? Good grief WTHI, get up to speed.

Don't ask me how this game got moved from 2016 to 2017......that's a minor detail.

The more money games the better and it looks good on RP....You don't get beat up in money games no more than you get beat up in other games....the difference is not that the D1 schools are so much bigger it is that they have more scholarships....it isn't like you are out there playing against a buch of guys that are just that much more physical than you that they punish you....Both teams have very good players....bigger schools have more of them....the only difference....if a kid benches 450....he is just as strong at any kid at usc or oregon who benches 450....justin hilton clocked a 4.3 40 and that is a full day's work for any DB at any school....Now if we scheduled alabama, oklahoma in a row...we would be beat up....but what school wouldn't....LOL...But my point is...people think these money games are going to be massacres and they aren't....the difference is...the bigger schools overwhelm you with talent and fresh players and more coaches who have been there for years...

Money Games + / -

I agree with most of the comments here -- we need the money, the attention, the recruiting boost, etc the games like Penn State bring. I think even the argument about talent has validity -- ISU has some very talented players that could play at some major schools. Seems like we often have had "skill" players like that -- easier to find quick, fast running backs and receivers for example than to find quick, fast, incredibly strong 6' 4" 335 lb linemen for a school like ISU. But the depth of the big schools is often the deciding factor.
The downside, especially for a school like us trying to build back from the ashes we have a few years ago, is not just the possible injuries But right now we and the team are filled with optimism. I actually think with some luck, a few PSU turnovers, and some confidence on our part we just might pull off the upset at Penn State. I certainly feel if we can move the ball offensively and not make major turnovers ourselves we can walk out of there even having a loss, but still have played a nice game and feel really good about the fame.
But if its 56 - 3 ............or something like that and we end up with about 7 first downs, etc etc ............well then, whther or not we have physical injuries or not, that could have a very bad impact on this team.
So I'm hoping we play well, show them the talent we do have, play smart, and walk away -- win or lose - with pride and dignity.

Agree with most of your points but with the scholie difference and total rosters, PSU, Minn, Tenn, and the rest have MORE kids who run 4.3 40s, bench 450s, etc... Sure we have those kids but we'll have 4-5, PSU will have 9-12 of them.

I hope it's not a 56-3 spread; 40-24 or 42-27 would be much easier on the eyes, mind. Love to see an upset but I'm not putting $$$ on it. Now, if it was any other sport, I'd put $$$ on the line.

Yeah that is what i am saying....it isn't like they have a bunch of 500lb bench pressers...and we have a bunch of 200 lbs bench pressers and if we play two money games that our kids would get destroyed because they are just freaks of nature and we aren't....I am saying they have more players...they overwhelm you over the game...that's how they beat us...not like they are just going to send our players out on ambulances....I was saying that because someone said two money games in a row would be bad and wear us down....it may be bad for our record but...physically....we will be fine....

As far as the point spread and our performance and how it impacts our confidence....I don't think you can just look at the score....If we have a bunch of turnovers and mishaps...NIU, SIU, is capable of beating us 50-0...If you get beat bad because you played bad...your confidence won't be hurt because you can fix that.....if you get beat because they flat out just handed it to you and you did everything right and had the right techniques and you did what you are coached to do....and you just get manhandled...that hurts your confidence....so I guess it just depends...
