That would be a pretty good move for the AAC but a pretty devastating blow for the A-10. Shockers would love it. I could see A10 going after Belmont if someone leaves. Belmont just fits their profile and honestly they don't seem like they will be lifers in the MVC.

A10 still will have a handful of solid programs, but that leaves Dayton as the only premier team left in that conference.

Correct in that we lost....but, it was Armstrong State. We won our next game against Colorado state.......so it goes.

I don't believe the A10 got a new media deal and instead only got an extension which expires this year. Also, they signed a deal with FloSports for streaming either this year or last so if their funding is dropping, it may not be great for the Midwestern schools.

It appears that VCU received $235K for their share from the A10 media deal last season. Wichita received around $2M from the AAC media deal.

If that is the case, it's down HARD because I read on a VCU board they were getting $5m per in the past. No wonder they're looking to run.

Yeah I was just reading their board and it was the conference as a whole (not each school) getting around $5M annually, and now it's getting split at least 15 different ways.
 
Wichita and Navy split a share in the AAC. A share in the AAC is worth around $7M and Wichita gets 30% of that, while Navy gets the other 70%. Now the AAC wants to create the same setup with VCU and Army.

If those numbers are remotely accurate VCU is gone and I don't blame them. Honestly, surprising the A10 media deal is that low, man it would be sweet if StL and Dayton gave the MVC serious consideration...never is going to happen...but that would something else.

Yeah, I saw the post before the Violet Ram person came in and provided the correct number. If the 70/30 pair split is right, they'd essentially 10x their media rights in the move alone. No brainer.

I think the bigger story is this puts the A10 in a precarious situation. Their media deal HAS to go down after losing one of the top two programs over the last two decades. If I'm Jeff Jackson, I give SLU and Dayton a call just to say hello and ask about the fam. The Valley is in a unique spot where it can become the top basketball-only conference which could draw a bigger media deal from ESPN with the right additions.

Most definitely. Did some looking, and if this new format were used last year, you would have had a 16-16 Texas Tech team, a 17-17 ‘Nova, a 16-16 Seton Hall, 16-19 Ohio St, 18-17 Colorado, and 16-17 Florida. These ~.500 teams would likely have taken the place of some 7 to 9 loss low-major regular season champs.
 
The 12 teams selected from the power6 conferences will be GUARANTEED the opportunity to host the first round game.

It's pretty difficult to figure out what teams would get it in right now but it's pretty easy to figure out everyone outside of the P6 is getting F*****

I almost wonder if a P6 team that gets in with a 16-19 record (for example) if they would even accept the NIT invite. I'd be embarrassed as a coach to continue in the post-season after a terrible season like that.

If I'm a mid/low major school I'm straight up declining an invite to the NIT. That tournament has been a joke for a while now anyways. Probably won't be too long before they get rid of automatic bids for the NCAA Tournament too. This is just the test run. They flirted with the idea during the COVID season when they were going to run a smaller field.
 
I think indiana state might’ve had a chance to make the nit last year with the new format. None of it matters but I think they would’ve been in.
