I blame myself.
I'll take the blame. But seriously if schools like MOSU, ILST, and Belmont leave who is the MVC going to add that's any better? More Horizon League schools? UIC and Valpo are both cellar dwellers at 11th and 12th right now. The choices are very slim, so hopefully everyone stays or else this conference will continue to decline even further into irrelevancy. The positive is that we may win it more often though.

Two things.

First, as you point out in your response, no one is better “right now”. Loyola wasn’t an exciting choice when they were added but were a huge asset by the time they left.

Second, it’s not like Illinois State and Missouri State are setting the world on fire. Neither are good at any of the biggest sports (football, basketball and baseball (bears are solid at baseball but not spectacular)).

This is all a moot point until any movements are made, but IF either or both leave, my vote (for what it is worth) would be Northern Kentucky (nice arena, bigger market) and Wright State (nice arena, solid basketball and baseball programs). Close enough to be travel partners.

Good try… throw money at football and still consistently lose. You guys make it so easy when you just give the same tired rebuttals - it just recreates the platform to further exploit football.

A lot of differences to speak of outside of the fact that one sport Track & Field historically is our most successful and it’s not particularly close.

The other sport football historically speaking is our least successful sport and it’s not particularly close.

Tack & Field have the newest and most recently renovated facilities both indoor and outdoor behind the Hulman Center which was most recent.

Football has the worst facility of all our sports programs.

Track & Field/Cross Country have one of the largest alumni donor bases at Indiana State. That is without including the Gibson Family gave a million dollar gift to help make the outdoor track facility a reality. same Gibson family that is the most influential donor and name in this community. He’s not going to let anything happen to that program.

Track & Field/Cross Country are basically grouped together and we have one of the top Cross Country courses in the nation. Revenue from hosting MVC Championships, NCAA Regional and NCAA National meets comes to Indiana State in addition to the funds awarded by the NCAA to help host such large scale meets.
From your CONSTANT comments about football. Remember Mr. Haute guy, football season brings in Alums (like me) from different parts of our places. 7,000 plus fans, booking up hotel rooms. Haute restaurants employing packed ( especially Homecoming) employees is GOOD for Terre Haute. DO NOT EVER see 7,000 plus at ANY track and field meet like football games.
I donate to ISU because of our HC PERIOD!

What does all the Men’s and Women’s track and field cost us? Huh? Scholarships, coaches salaries, travel expenses, meals??
Revenues? NONE!!

why is track and field getting brought into this? Do people not know that there are requirements to stay D1? You NEED sports like soccer, track and field, gymnastics, volleyball, lacrosse, etc. to stay D1. None of those sports are ever going to "move the needle" but they are necessary for an athletic department. All things considered our TF & Cross programs do A LOT for the community and university at a pretty low cost.

My gripe with football at this point is why are we spending near the top of the MVFC just to get our results, we can cut spending by 2 mil and still get our 1 win a year. People literally would not be able to tell the difference in on-field-products whether we spend 4.5m or 2m. We spend more football than Northern Iowa, they are a freaking football school and we spend more than them, that's insane. having an extra 2 mil in our basketball budget, 300k towards baseball and the other 200k going towards other sports would go a long way with those programs and helping us stay the VERY relevant we currently are.

Because the fact that Jason, and SSOM wants to put “All Available Dollars” into basketball. SSOM rags on football because we suck. We do. But, giving up football will kill alumni support that comes back for HC.
Jason says, “All Available Financial money” goes toward Men’s Basketball, ( directing his comments at football) then, fine. Let’s give up everything to? Just stupid. I’m done.

Guess what genius? And let me say I’m a Track and Field fan. In High School, I pole vaulted, and ran The 220.
But this nonsense of (Jason’s term) Albatross, Albatross is just nonsense. Our Alumni group give 8k at HM. Let’s see what they raise at no Homecoming because of the Albatross?🙄

In my view the athletic budget comparisons of "we spend $X and they spend $X" are misleading. Who really knows what ISU and other schools are including as expenses. The only accurate comparison when looking at programs would be "we spend $X on a coach and they spend $X on a coach".

Went to Ball State...in no way do I want ISU even thinking about the MAC.

It's a football first conference...basketball in the MAC is an afterthought at best.

The only reason that The MAC was able to raid UMass is because UMass is valuing football above every other sport, including basketball. UMass is already FBS and was previously in The MAC, so it makes sense. For every sport besides football, the move is a step down for UMass.

I think you're undervaluing the men's hockey program in Amherst... a true shame the MAC isn't sanctioning hockey for the Minutepersons

If we're still allowed to talk basketball, I'd like to see Murray and MO State pull off wosn tonight, that would almost lock in Murray on the other side of the bracket. They're not a team I'd like us to have to play in back-to-back weeks

It’s sad to think about how good the league was in the 1990s and early 2000s in basketball. Gary Trent, Earl Boykins, Bonzi Wells, Wally Z. Kent State and Miami making Elite 8 runs.

And now they pissed it all away.

But they do get to play in the famous Idaho potatoes bowl. And I’m sure that brings just as much recognition as a sweet 16 run

even more and I'm not even mentioning the TRUCKLOADS of potatoes each school receives in lieu of a cash payment

At least those schools would be smart enough to avoid wasting money on football

Still would be a better basketball league than the MAC

When Pearl was at UWM they were better than any team Missouri State or Illinois State has put on the court in the last 2 decades.

I think you MEANT to say the schools ARE smart enough to avoid wasting money on football...

I mean it’s got to be pretty low - but probably more than you’d imagine.

Coaches salaries, Bus & Hotel costs, athlete per diem, maybe a few new pole vault poles, all athletes on scholarship get a pair of running shoes and a pair of spikes and meet entry fee’s of which we off-set a few times per year by hosting ourself.

So for instance when you go run a meet at IU or Purdue or IL State you have to figure hotel, bus and athlete food $$ are pretty minimal. They only go out to Iowa a couple times per year maybe twice indoor and twice outdoor.

But really it doesn’t even matter because of everything I stated above. The only program in real jeopardy is football and the only programs that are safe are Basketball, Baseball and Track/Cross Country. That’s just the hard facts.

The Google-Gonkulator tells me the NCAA allows 12.6 scholies across Cross Country and Track & Field (Indoor & Outdoor)

Is that true? Only 12.6?

Earning our keep in the MVC 😂.
Exactly!! SSOM will go on and on how football is holding back our basketball success, but totally endorsing Track and Field because of the cost. Can someone do a cost of all the scholarships that track and field cost ISU. Coaches expense, travel ect… I will never apologize to you SSOM. With your big mouth, you have it coming!

the LAST ISU home football game that brought in 7,000+ was Homecoming 2019...

and how many of those 7,000+ (7,243) were from OUTSIDE the Wabash Valley or Indianapolis...
