Could be a ugly one tonight in Kentucky. Murray State is 7-1 in the conference and averaging almost 88 points per game.

Is there hope for this program? I know Coach is in his 1st season and needs time but it's hard to feel positive about the future. Deja Jones is our only real SR we'll loose next year but I think there is a pretty good chance we loose ladies like Keslyn Secrest & Saige Stahl to the portal. Can't see them especially Saige staying as I'm sure she'll have better offers after this breakout season.

Prime time match up in the afternoon! Doesn't get much better than this hsme baby!

Ladies blown out on the road to Missouri State team. Final: ISU-61 MSU-76

News and Notes
  • Deja Jones' 10 assists were the most for a Sycamore this season and the most by an Indiana State player since Ella Sawyer had 12 against Southern Illinois on Feb. 17, 2024.
  • Mia Simpson became the fourth different player to record a double-double this season for Indiana State, finishing with season highs of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Missouri State has been outrebounded in just five games this season. Indiana State is responsible for two of those games, having gone plus-seven in rebound margin (47-40) in Friday's game. The Sycamores were plus-14 in rebound margin in the earlier meeting this season.
  • Indiana State entered as the top shot-blocking team in the MVC in conference play, and Friday's game proved no different. The Sycamores registered five rejections against the Lady Bears.
  • Indiana State turned 16 offensive rebounds into 19 second chance points in Friday's game. Four different Sycamores had multiple offensive rebounds.
  • The charity stripe proved to be a major difference Friday, with Missouri State attempting 30 free throws to Indiana State's 15. The Sycamores were whistled for 29 fouls, compared to 16 for the Lady Bears.

Ladies lose a tough one to a solid Illinois State club Thursday night inside the Hulman Center. ISU came out on fire in the first half and looked like they did last game. Sycamores offense was rolling with tempo, ball movement and team played with great energy. ISU led by 2 at the half. Second half was what we've seen way too many times this season with this group. Sycamores defense let up and they got loose with the ball. If it wasn't for another outstanding effort by Bella this one would've gotten ugly in the 4th quarter. Time to move onto Bradley this Sunday at home! This team the past few weeks is starting to show some offensive promise and we're seeing the Bella we thought we might see after her freshman season. Secrist and Stahl continue to be solid and productive. Good to see Mia become a serious threat and we are starting to see some flashes from White & Jones. Defensively the girls have to get better defending the permitter and on ball screens!

  • Deja Jones recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 11 assists after registering the only triple-double in the MVC in the Sycamores' last game. Jones has 10-plus assists in each of the last three games, and is averaging 8.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 11.0 assists per game in that span.
  • Bella Finnegan recorded her second straight game with 25-plus points, finishing with 27 against Illinois State. Finnegan has 13 3-pointers over the last two games while averaging 28.5 points per game in that span.
  • The Sycamores continued their momentum from distance in Thursday's game, hitting nine 3-pointers while shooting 47.4 percent from behind the arc.
  • Indiana State took advantage of turnovers and extra possessions, finishing with 20 second chance points and 19 points off turnovers.
  • Indiana State shot better than 45 percent from the field and 3-point range in three of the four quarters in Thursday's game.
  • Of the 33 fouls called between the two teams, 15 came in the fourth quarter.

I was there. I shall add a few points. First, in the game at Illinois State on 1/2/25, the Redbirds blew out the Sycamores by 28. The improvement in performance over the last few games has been remarkable.

ISU Blue was down 69-63 with just under 5 to play, so despite some earlier questionable shot selection by some reserves, the team was right in the game. Finally, this team is beginning to make some shots.

Then it sort of blew up in their faces and reached 85-70 with about 2.5 to play. Just a series of Illinois State getting and making open 3's and ISU missing some shots plus, as you noted, some loose ball handling. Throw in some really bad defense allowing back cut layups by the Redbirds and the game got out of control. The Trees scored the last 7 of the game over the next two minutes, but did let ISU Red run out the last 20 seconds.

This team needs to play up tempo to have its best chances to score; however, the short bench has a hard time giving the starters quality relief. With just White and Stahl available to play inside, foul trouble can be an issue.

I studied the season results last night. This team has only had 5 losses by 5 or less points, so it has just been a lot of games that have not been competitive at the end.

Hopefully, the improvements will continue.

This coach hire just before the new AD & President arrived was a big mistake. It won't cost nearly as much as IU & Woodson to get rid of him sooner rather than later. Otherwise the WBB program is going nowhere but out of sight out of mind in the next few years

Because it's been so good the past 8 years since Vicki Hall was hired, right? This program has been at rock bottom. It's going to take a few years for any coach to gain momentum at this point, so instead of continuing this coaching carousel, why don't we give him a chance.

I get that this season has been awful along with SEVERAL years of this program being very bad. with that said oh, like Darth said.....you've gotta give Coach a chance at least. There is several issues with this current roster but there is also a few pretty good players in the right system if they just stick to the up temp fast break offense. There is a coach out there available that I think could/would be a homerun hire if State decided to go after her but now isn't the time.

Ladies loose again at home. ISU now 4-21

Bradley-56
ISU-54

News and Notes
  • Indiana State finished with a 19-2 advantage in fastbreak points, with the 19 fastbreak points being the Sycamores' most in a game this season.
  • Indiana State limited Bradley to just 20 points in the second half, the lowest point total for a Sycamore opponent in a half during conference play.
  • Indiana State finished plus-one (38-37) in rebound margin, and had an 11-4 advantage in second chance points. All five starters had five or more rebounds.
  • Savannah White registered five blocks in Sunday's game and is one of two players in the MVC averaging more than two blocks per game against conference foes.
  • Bella Finnegan has knocked down at least three 3-pointers in each of the last four games, including Sunday's game. Finnegan is shooting 51.3 percent from behind the arc in that span.
