With Woodson out at IU, I just had a thought: if a certain coach had stuck around for just 1 more season, he'd have IU, North Carolina, Virginia, Miami, Florida State (hell, maybe Syracuse too) all with his name at the top of their list outbidding themselves for his services.

Oh well, live and learn (not to sign unbreakable MOUs)
Not that he's hurting with that $2 million a year......but serves him right to miss out on these much bigger and better opportunities for lying to all our faces and the administration. We were suppose to be focused on winning the MVC and going back to the NCAA's, but he thought it was a better idea to be meeting up with SLU secretly....that's just what it seems like online, but I'm not very good with this social media stuff......wink wink

Rocco Miller got confirmation from the committee basically last season that in order for us to be in, there would have needed to be 2 less bid thieves.

My biggest issue with last season is Virginia. They just didn't deserve it. They were 2-8 in Q1. 54 NET, 5-6 on the road and 3-3 on neutral. They did the typical major tactic of just feasting at home going 15-2. But the issue is they were playing for their at-large lives and they squeak out an OT win vs a very average Boston College team and then lose in OT to bid stealing NC State team. So essentially their loss was a direct result of a "bid-stealer" and whose bid did it steal? Not an average Virginia squad out of the ACC who could have prevented it from happening. But a mid-major, of course. Not to mention they had about the ugliest offense in the world which resulted in about the ugliest game in NCAA history. Just a complete sham.

Oh and the MW getting 17 bids last year was garbage too. Outside of San Diego State that conference does NOTHING in March. At some point you have to prove it on the court.

IU rumors: Brad Stevens (not happening), Chris Beard (Texas Terch), Mark Byington (Vandy), Chris Collins (Northwestern), Dusty May (Michigan), Ben McCollum (Drake), Greg McDermott (Creighton), Bruce Pearl (Auburn), Some guy in Saint Louis, Will Wade (McNeese)

Nobody is talking a 14-9 coach out of a shitty A-10. Sorry, money grubber, but if you hadn’t gotten on the first boat out of town, you’d probably be the leading candidate to take over a blue blood with unlimited resources right down the road. But you wanted to get out so bad that you went to a ghetto to spend the winter playing in high school gyms. Smart, dude. Really smart.

Chris Beard (Texas Terch)
Not sure where "Texas Terch" is, but Beard has been at Texas and Ole Miss since then.

Obviously a Beard hire would be very controversial, but it actually kind of makes sense. He probably is the closest current coach to Knight, and whether you think that's a good or bad thing depends on you.
Only two people know the full story of what happened between him and his fiance, and they're still together 5 years later. Whatever happened was something they were obviously able to put behind them, and I think it's a reasonable stance for everyone else to move on form it too. However, there are people that have dealt with domestic abuse in their own lives that will absolutely not accept or forgive Beard, and I'm not going to tell them they're wrong for feeling that way. Still, it's very different from someone like Bob Huggins, who has a multi-decade pattern of being a huge POS and any AD that considers him should be fired on the spot.

As for McCollum, the face that he very likely is a realistic candidate is hilarious. IU fans say "we're IU, we can get anyone" and have a list ranging from Billy Donovan and Brad Steven's to a guy in his 1st year in D1.

The most likely outcome is that the IU opening is used by Bruce Pearl, Greg McDermott, Ben McCollum, etc as a bargaining chip for a big raise and they hire someone boring like Buzz Williams or Steve Alford

If the 7th ranked (NET) Atlantic 10 is so bad then what does that say about the 10th ranked Missouri Valley?

BTW what kind of sane individual would want the IU job? Tom Crean couldn't even keep his job there after winning two Big Ten titles in his last five seasons there, along with four tournament appearances in his final six seasons there (with three of those being Sweet 16 runs). That fan base deserved Archie Miller and Mike Woodson. I hope their next coach is even worse than those two!

Chris Collins no way, Bruce Pearl I doubt he’d want it given what he’s got, Dusty May obvi makes sense but I think IU missed their chance. Michigan will throw money at him until he phone stops ringing. Let’s hope they bring back Archie Miller

Beard is very happy in Oxford. They definitely have the money to sweeten the pot to keep him.

a POS program like the Loosiers DESERVE a POS coach like Pearl; but at the end of the day, the Loosiers are really hurting themselves - Mike Woodson is doing a Tremendous Job, he's studied the game, The Big Ten very powerfully and I truly believe he'll strongly return that program to prominence - the Loosiers SIMPLY need to give him more time to make them the big, Beautiful program they strongly believe they are - just give him another ten years or so...

I'd actually half-heartedly want IU 🏀 to do well if they'd schedule the Sycamores every year or two. They should give us a purpetual home & home.

Since they don't ... it's slightly satisfying to see them lose.

Purdue's program has been much better than IU's for many years.

He also agreed to a new contract, so the buy out would be pricey.
If I recall, Mississippi has a law where a state employee can’t sign a contract longer than 4 years. Or something like that. Ole Miss has struggled to keep coaches in the past because they can never sign them to the mega contracts you see coaches get at other schools.

That’s why every Ole Miss fan is nervous about Kiffin leaving for a Jimbo Fisher-like 10 year contract.

Is anyone / everyone tracking the big game on Peacock?

Tonight 9:00 Eastern Tom Izzo and his Spartans will most likely pass the SOB of Orrville, Prick of Gloomington, Toddler of Lubbock as the All-Time Big Ten MBB Wins with win #354. Spartans are also in play for another Big Ten title; if they claim it, part of it; Izzo climbs into 3-way tie with Ward Lambert and the SOB of Orrville with 11 Big Ten MBB titles

I think this could be the next realignment possibly. If Big East does expand I think they try a couple teams from MVC.

I don't see anyone in the MVC that would be on the BE radar.

Belmont: ideal market, but arena is too small and fanbase is almost nonexistent

Bradley, Murray State: decent programs but in the middle of nowhere as far as the Big East elites would be concerned.

SIU, Northern Iowa, UIC, Illinois State, Indiana State: tiny, midwest public schools aren't going to mesh well in the new Big East in any scenario

Drake: still unlikely, but probably the only MVC school that would not get their call hung up on.

I didn't realize NY had become a rec ganja state -- likely already was before this blurb...

Pitino is off his rocker - he's proposing the same f**ked construct (big MBB, big football schools merging with big MBB schools...) that was the problem with the FIRST Big East

when he starts chatting about reality and stops screwing fans in restaurants, he's yapping may be worth ignoring

I take it that you and Bobby didn't vacation together.

I was thinking the same thing. Might as well invite the AAC teams back that left.
