The Menser Level
Welp the weather looks just about perfect in Terre Haute for what could be a very fun weekend for us ISU fans. While the baseball team is playing a huge series against Evansville (where they could secure the MVC) a few blocks south the men's and women's track and field teams will be looking to secure their conference titles. I would encourage anyone in the area to block off a few extra hours of their time and check out some of the best athletes in the MVC competing on the blue oval.
Both men and women are favorites. Men got the max of 100 points (all 10 first place votes) going into the championships with Illinois State getting 87 for second. Women received 141 points (9 out of 12 first place votes) with Murray State with 129.
Men will be going for their 13 MVC outdoor title and trying to complete the three-peat err I mean "tree-peat" winning the 2022 & 2023 titles. The men once won 4 in a row in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. The women will be looking for outdoor title number 8, Their last title came in 2013 on a memorable final 4x400 relay to edge out favorite Wichita State 166.5-165. Illinois State has had strangle hold on the women's side winning the last 5 MVC titles.
For those of you that don't understand how track and field work. All schools have been participating in meets during the season and each individual is ranked in the MVC depending on their marks & times throughout the season. This creates what's called the "Performance List". If the "Performance List" holds true the men will win the championship and the women will be a close second. The key to a great championship meet is "breaking" the "Performance List". Essentially you want more points-per-event than what you were suppose to have. If you do this you will be in great shape to win the championship.
