For all these people on here who think ISU would be so terrible next year because Schertz is leaving and taking every player with him, read all of the above.

Just about every team in the Valley will be a total rebuild next year. Its the way it is for schools our size. Get good, you get poached. Every player we bring in going forward, assume they are a one year rental. Nothing more. Every year will be a totally different team, doesn't matter if you keep the coach or not.

Schertz leaving won't put us nearly as far behind the 8 ball as many seem to think. Belmont, UNI, UIC, SIU and others are losing just as many guys. The whole Valley will suck next year. Whoever can retain more than 2 starters will be voted pre-conference favorite.

Sadly this is 100% fact and the new reality.

Be curious to see if Drake has guys in the portal. I think strong cultures and winning can keep cores together unless it’s only about money

Well when you tuck your best player to bed every night and give him a kiss on the forehead it's probably easier to keep the core together. As long as TD is there Drake is fine. But as we are finding out, your entire program can change in about 1 hour.

The only thing that matters to the majority of these folks is now NIL money.

The problem is that we have no AD and no President. We would be 2 months before we could hire a coach. The good coaches would be gone, as well as the good players.

Yep, this is spot on. Every MM is going to be getting hit by the portal hard. If we play our cards right, our increased visibility and fundraising this year should still put us in a good position for next year, even with big roster turnover.

What attracts a kid to enter the portal? In no particular order

1. Chance to play more
2. Chance to win more
3. More money

A school might be offering each Sycamore 250,000 for all we know…expecting kids to turn that down because we have our version of Martha the Mop lady walking in the bowels of Hulman whistling our fight song tugs on the old heart strings, but it’s not very realistic

I’m not a lawyer and have no expertise or knowledge of such things, but I’m curious to know if we’re going to start treating these athletes like employees, is a possible way to curtail the wild West aspect of all this transferring to attach to an NIL deal a noncompete clause? Or something to prevent a kid from signing and taking the money and run? Texas QB Quinn Ewers got super money from Ohio State, never played and transferred to Texas the next year.

Also add coaching changes, graduated and pursue grad school somewhere else, Play higher or lower competition, play style (They feel like their skillset doesn't fit), or in exit interview they were told to transfer somewhere else.
