What some of you fail to understand is if Indiana State had cut football 10+ years ago when I alone lead the charge we would be in a much different spot today as a basketball program and University.

We would have been in a position to capitalize on an NIT Championship caliber coaching staff and roster - it would have been sustainable. A really good possibility that we would have left the MVC sometime in the last 10 years to a “basketball” conference and things would be much much different.

Of course - mid majors and the NCAA Tournament is problematic moving forward. Look no further than the past two NCAA tournaments, a metric system and scheduling that is inherently designed to prop P6 schools. Had we moved on this long ago we wouldn’t be in a position where we had to worry about it.

Moving forward stepping down to the Pioneer League is a step in the right direction. I feel as if some of the discussions about an on-campus football stadium continue to progress it would have the potential to be a really good product for long time fans and alumni - they should just be thankful to have something at this point. Nothing would prohibit a step up again at some point in the future if it made sense.

A lot of ifs and maybes in there. The greatest chance is that had we dropped football 10+ years ago is that ISU would still be in a very similar situation as it is right now. There's no guarantee Lansing would have been bought out early, there's no guarantee (assuming Schertz still gets hired in this situation) that Schertz doesn't leave for St Louis or Louisville anyways, and there's no guarantee that we don't hire Graves as the new coach.

I am curious as to which conference you think would have taken us in. The Big East is delusional. We don't have the market for the A10 or the American. The Mtn West wouldn't take Wichita State because they didn't have football.

I know you all love quoting Wichita State around here. A little history lesson on them is that they dropped football in 1986. They made the tournament in 87 and 88, which was more than likely not a direct result of them cutting football considering they also made it in 85, and then didn't make it again until 2006. I'm not sure an 18 year drought with 0 conference championships is really considered successful. Most of their success also came under Greg Marshall, who was at least getting partially paid for through the Koch brothers, who are billionaires; you know similar to how St Louis is paying for their coach. ISU doesn't have that same luxury.

Screw the NCAA, but that ending to UCONN Duke is up there for best endings in a while

Duke obviously doesn't practice situations like that.

I don't understand why they just didn't make UConn foul. Less than 10 seconds so they can't get a backcourt violation. Just hold the ball.

100%, it was also interesting to see Scheyers body language as it was happening. he was telling the initial player to hold the ball. But then he was motioning them to throw it down court (which they did). He had nothing to do with changing the outcome but it was interesting the coach was motioning the same bone-headed plays that his players were performing.

I was told he is the best coach in the country

If these new eligibility rules are ratified, anyone know if Alessio has 1 or 2 years of eligibility? Guessing 2?

And we have several players that we could have for years. Interesting. Of course, our competition does too. The question is: how much money will it take to KEEP the ones you want to keep?

Totally bad situation for next year's HS recruits?
