493 Acre Park for Sale

Historic Forest Park in northern Vigo County up for sale. How many knew that this was a Vigo County Park property? Always appeared to be under the control of First Financial Bank and its predecessors. A really good "smoke job" for all these years I would say. :thumbsdown: Who has paid for the "Caretaker" for quite a long time? How many other county park properties have a "Caretaker" employed?

It is owned by hulman and company and was operated by first financial bank.

I grew up less than a mile away...Markle Mill Dam was my childhood "playground." My Grand Uncle REX JOHNSON was the "Steam Engineer" when it burned to the ground in '38. Hulman purchased BOTH the Mill Dam & Forest Park shortly following the fire.

It has a private owner? How do you figure it is a public park?

At any rate, if I had a cool Million I'd buy it for prime private hunting ground... But I don't.

I see that a number of your TH buddies are associated with the Quabache Land Conservatory. Have them raise 1/2 the money and get an IN matching grant for the other half.

IN State Rep BOB HEATON has his name carved on a tree in Forest Park (see prior LINK)...get his ass to lobby on behalf of the Conservancy group!

It won't stay on the market long...real estate developers w/ deep pockets ($1m is spare change to them!) will be salivating over the prospects of an EXCLUSIVE development for Union Hospital physicians.

Unfortunately in the society I live in today whitetail/turkey hunter does not = "conservation group" which is the biggest farce known to man. No people on the planet care more about deer, turkey and other wildlife than the majority of hunters. But... We have hunters that go out and shoot deer from vehicles and kill deer out of season and it gives conservationist like myself a bad rap. As for Heaton - he aint gonna do nuthin with that land at the state level, dream away.

No people on the planet care more about deer, turkey and other wildlife than the majority of hunters. But... We have hunters that go out and shoot deer from vehicles and kill deer out of season and it gives conservationist like myself a bad rap. As for Heaton - he aint gonna do nuthin with that land at the state level, dream away.

What you would want to do on the land, is your business....it was all pie-in-the-sky. Bank never said to hunt Deer, Turkey's, or Squirrel's on it....or was trying to equate Rednecks, shootin' from pick up trucks ='s law abiding hunter's. Heck, make it a Nudist Colony for Southgrad07 to go swish around on for all I care.

P.S. Glad that you're hunter. We need more, and we especially need more young people getting involved in the sport. Without hunters, we wouldn't have millions of dollars in tax revenues from permits to perpetuate the sport on public lands....and billions more in gear purchases....which means jobs.
