If THEY can kick it up a notch in front of only 5,100 home court onlookers, you'd think the Sycamores could duplicate the feat. They were astonished that 100 students stormed the floor, almost filling up the 1/2 court jump circle. Now that's BIG TIME enthusiasm.:) E-ville has lost six (6) games this season by 3 pts. or less - hard luck, eh?

Very good "comment" below the article, raising the question WHY you rarely see any blacks attending UE games, even though 15% of Evansville's population is black. Is it economic (high cost of tickets), or simply a non-identity factor with UE's "image?"

Why would they raise this question in Evansville for a college game?

Let's step the question up 10 notches and go to WHY you rarely see any blacks attending Detroit Pistons games, or Pacers games, or if want to go back to college sports...Butler.

What's the make up of blacks in Detroit? Don't answer that. Indpls is what 30% black? And Butler is right in the mix of urban Indy.

The conclusion is, the diversity of population at pro and college basketball games is almost nil.

I was fortunate enough to go to the Super Bowl on Sunday, and the amount of blacks there couldn't have been .1 of 1% of everyone there.

So the question is, is it soley economics that keeps almost all college and professional sports SEGREGATED, we know it can't be image.

....

Because Ford Arena is only a few blocks from Lincoln & Governor, the long-time historic center of E-ville black housing. With the Arena only being 1/2 full, some are trying to figure out how to put more bodies in the stands.

Well, it sounds like the people in charge of the box office at Ford Arena need to consider wider financial options for ticket purchases using EBT, WIC, and Indiana Development Workforce Cards.

As a person who regularly attends UE home games I am going to call BS on the black comment from what I see it is about 70 30 which is a pretty high split considering the breakdown in Evansville...do I run around counting? No, but I dont feel like I am at a segregated meeting when I am there.

E-Ville Crowd

Commented on this on another thread, but as someone who grew up watching 10,000 plus at Roberts Stadium on TV, it is very sad to see the Aces only drawing 4000 -- 6000 in a brand new arena. Very sad. My God, ISU is outdrawing the Aces in a 40 year old, sterile Hulman Center ? With a population base one third the size of Evansville ?

And I don't care what race or color the fans in the stands are in E'Ville. Aces fans -- get out there and support your team !

PS ISU Fans .................same message !
