I noticed a couple guys missing from the roster on GoSycamores. I'd imagine they are going to be academic casualties. Anyone else hearing anything else? I was told there may be another big transfer coming in but I couldn't get anything concrete on it.

On the recruiting front, you've seen the boat load of profiles I've created. Staff is really doing a great job expanding their search IMO. Major kudos to Volker, Minter and the rest of the staff.

The assistants you mentioned are good young coaches and high energy guys that bring a lot to the program. They have done a great job not only with recruiting, but coaching and game planning as well. I think there are a few "casualties" on the roster, and a couple of names that are still listed that I think are no longer on the team. Haven't heard anything about another transfer, but it would always be good to get more linemen in. A couple of other MVFC schools are boasting some big FCS transfers, but as we know, sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. This staff has generally done a great job with FBS transfers, and doing it the right way (filling a position need rather than relying on them as the base for program turnaround and success).

With everything afforded to them, there is 0 reason why anyone should have academic issues. If you do, you're simply not putting in any time. I have no sympathy for anyone that can't manage to stay eligible.

Agreed on the acedemics boda. This is not rose hulman. Also, I was wondering if anyone can drop a name on the kids that left and the ki supposedly coming in....any word on LUTZ...and if we get a transfer...hopefully it would be a DT....thats just me....

UPDATE...

I know all the kids are working very hard right now with summer workouts. The have been at it since 5/21. My son is really looking forward to this fall and opening up against BIG TEN rival - Indiana. What I know in talking to him is that many of the kids are getting much bigger and stronger. There are most definitely kids absent from the roster...most likely either by looking at other teams or released academically. I am impressed with the workout program...my son entered the program last fall at 210 and he is now at 230. All through high school we could not get weight on him...now he is a GIANT amongst giants.

I know several more of the boys that have shown great gains...its really exciting to see right before your eyes. Especially when you kids before college, you saw everyday so you really couldn't tell if they were getting bigger or not...but, now after not seeing him for several months...WOW...what a change.

Believe there is still a feeling of WHO is going to lead the offense...and who will step up out of the wide receiver ranks and make the plays. Finally, a solid and athletic offensive line is needed. This is probably not new news to most, but, it still lingers amongst the team. In many aspects, this may be one of Coach Miles most challenging years when it comes to coaching.

All in all, I think there is a core group of the players that are extremely optimistic about this year...and an attitude that they will do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals this year.

I ALWAYS get excited when Football becomes the main topic on SP. The whole season beginning at IU, especially on a Saturday night should be something for the players, coaches, and also THE FANS. They will be down there in record numbers I am sure as well for one terrific alumni event. Love the atmosphere and love having a shot at winning. The Hoosiers will be ready to play and I hope none of you think this is going to be easy. It will not.

Until they hone in on a QB, we are going to be an even bigger question mark. That has me VERY nervous. One other thing that has me worried. It is mid-June and I have not received one bit of information about renewing my season tickets for football. I am not sure that is the way to fire up your fans that have already shown loyalty. I am stunned by this. I was a first time ticket-holder last year but that is hardly saying thank you to the few of us that are supporting (in a small way) the football team. Anyone else agree or am I just being picky???

The offense really does have to come along quickly. We can't just be the Shakir show and hope he can give us more breakaway TD runs. We need to find leaders and guys who can produce.

Quit being so picky. Just kidding. They really should be sending out renewal forms within a month of the season concluding.

I am new to this season ticket thing. I would have thought that less than three months is "dragging" their feet a bit. If you think I am just impatient, then I am OK with that.

We've taken a LOT of offensive linemen over the last 2-3 recruiting cycles so while losing Lutz is a big blow, I would hope this team could weather that storm until he returns to full strength. If we can't, it means we're either not identifying/recruiting the right linemen or we're not developing/coaching them up right.

I don't have a name for the potential transfer. It was just an "Oh, BTW" PM I got from a member here. It's been about a month so I'm assuming it didn't happen or usually a name would emerge by now.

As for the four names not listed on the roster, two were obviously mentioned previously in QBs Logan Rehrer and Caleb Watkins. Those two guys left in search of PT from what I understand although Watkins had rules violation issues when he first got here. Two others that are no longer listed are WR Leonard Riston and DB CJ Ullysse. I believe Riston left because of team rules violations and CJ left due to academics. There are a 3-4 other players I've heard that are likely gone due to lack of PT or academic issues but until they aren't on the roster any longer and it's official, I don't want to speculate.

We have brought in quite a few linemen, some big guys at that. Just disappointing to lose someone with Lutz's experience, especially at a position like center and with a new QB coming in.

Lutz did have surgery awhile back. Is rehabing and trying to play but if he's not ready they will redshirt him since he is only a fourth year guy. Currently starting Oline left to right looks like Patrick, (Rice or Woods), Borchers, Masters, Paswater. A lot of people saying Rice might get the job. Also FN not starting this year means he and Shakir would be seniors together in '13. Not a bad situtation at all especially with Borchers back this year only

The biggest issue out there though is that a lot of our mid tenure guys we recruited in seasons past either havent grown or developed as much as one would hope. Also there has been healthy turnover on some who didnt pan out for various reasons. Some younger ones have a lot of potential but aren't ready. It takes time to develop those big bodies into mature 4th and 5th year grown men. Depth will be our Achilles heel again I bet. Masters and Patrick have done nicely. Hoping we get Rice and others to step up. We certainly willneedit

A lot of guys are still pretty young. Hard to say they haven't developed when they're still in the process.
