Wow, what a jerk. I hope the Indy schools stick together and tell that school to take a flying leap when they come sniffing around for players.

Yep, it's too bad they won't because it's FBS football. These are kids that should have given serious looks at Indiana State.

Any room on the roster???

I just looked at the ISU roster (Go Sycamores) as of today there are 20 guy's on it with no freaking number. I fully understand and accept that changes are comming with the new staff. I hope they have the heart and intergrity to let other colleges know certian guys are avalible --- are good kids but may not fit into the new system. At least e-mail a list to D3.. or non scolly FCS for guys with grades. Hopefully my comments are usless becouse it WAS done. Many (MANY 80%) non number guys are from out of State. I am not in the know but don't want to see ISU get the same reputation as Western Michigan !! Pissing off a fan base of any number in Indiana and Ill won't help attendence. I pray they do the right thing if and when guys are dropped!!

Pretty normal, it's called a redshirt. And some guys arent going to stay with the team after spring ball, hell some aren't even going to make it thru the summer. Some of those guys are already gone I believe anyways.

Not sure what you're getting at? The kids with no numbers are this past season's recruiting class. Those kid aren't on campus and won't have numbers as they're still in high school and don't graduate until May/June. They'll get numbers when they get to campus.

Elaborate.

Yea most listed without #s are incoming freshmen. Others on the roster are invited walkons for spring. Its likely only 1-3 of 30 or so even make the team for fall. It happens every year. The roster online won't likely be accurate until September.

All good points, However I feel this is a diffrent year. Years past the majority (correct me if I am wrong) contained kids that lived in a 150 mile radius. Then I buy the Walk on red shirt concept. Try outs etc. The amount of talent on the roster he is brining in that requires a plane ride home for Christmas is higher than I have ever seen. IMO you don't do this unless your serious about bringing them in. All I am saying -- as Jason's first post with Western Michigan being virtually black balled by some High School coaches, if you know a guy doesn't fit in with the new system be up front and let them or help them if needed find another field of competition. Don't string it out. I am sure that several guy's that Miles recruited will be cut. It happens anytime their is a coaching change. It is expected !

End game on my down and dirty thoughts- just worried due to most of our past and current teams containing a lot of Indiana and ILL guy's. If we don't handle releasing local players correctly we could have PR issues. Indiana High School coaches may hate each other but they will talk.

I do appreciate the responces and hopefully I have articulated my thoughts more effectively.

I am by no means saying this is what is going on. I am by no means an insider. I think the new staff has shown they can recruit. I am happy with the progress and excited about ISU football in April.

If you're brought in as a walk-on, you know the chances that you get meaningful PT is minute. Further, if you don't think you're a scheme fit, you have that discussion with the coach and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to try to find you a home elsewhere. Every year we have 5-10 players that disappear from the roster. It's been that way for as long as I can remember.

As for getting blackballed from high schools, coaches always talk tough but they aren't going to deny their kids a scholarship opportunity, especially in a state like Indiana where fewer HS players get them. If they do, they should be on the next train out of town.

What if the player has a scholarship offer from multiple schools?? Say Eastern KY, Youngstown St and ISU. Don't you want the HS coach to push ISU ? I am sure if a player gets offers from UINDY, Franklin and ISU, even if a coach dislikes ISU he would say ISU.

Right now if a Carmel or Warren player gets an offer from Western Michigan or Ball State, who will his coach recommend?

I see ISU gaining ground in the recruiting race. Kids are looking toward TH.

This is my 45th year on the "adult" side of Indiana high school athletics. During that time I have never known or even heard of a high school coach preventing a recruiter from talking to a prospect. It may have happened, but I would be surprised if it has.

What's worse I wonder, being cut because of a coaching change, being let go after a season or two, or playing your entire collegiate career without hardly ever seeing the field (we had quite a few of those under Miles). With three you presumably get the four-year scholarship, but if you're let go or told you won't play at least you can go somewhere where you can start.
