So, if I'm reading newer reports are accurate, the student lied in his initial statements that were reported in this article.

So the real story is what??!

Attempted murder.

I understand Indiana State's mission to provide opportunities for impoverished or first generation college students -- I fell into both categories. However, when a LARGE portion of your student enrollment comes from this basket, they are going to bring learned behaviors with them to campus. Indiana State keeps priding itself and puffing its chest out about student diversity and I call BS to that statement. They cater to 21st Century Scholars and Pell Grant recipients that come from that poor/first gen background and give them easy Federal money. It's okay to have a portion of your student populace from that but you also need other socioeconomic, ethnic and skilled backgrounds.

This modus operandi scares off quality students. Let's take a kid from Carmel. Carmel's school district is considered one of the tops in the state. Carmel High School's average SAT is 1668. The national average is 1498 and Indiana's average is 1470. Indiana State's average SAT for accepted students per the last data I could find was 1358. Unless a kid is getting significant scholarship money from Indiana State, why would they consider paying to go there compared to Indiana, Purdue or another school in state that is similar in cost? Most kids from Carmel wouldn't be getting scholarship money either considering they come from the middle-class to upper-class socioeconomic environment. The same could be said for most of the 9 donut counties around Indianapolis.

We've now had a murder back in 2012, attempted murder last night and the school shooting hoax just last week. I looked at the Cerney report on ISU's public safety website and it looks like other hate/violent crimes had increased from 2010 to 2012, too. A lot of the kids State has on campus should be at Ivy Tech or trade schools quite honestly. Just because someone qualifies for Pell Grants doesn't mean you should take their money. Just some food for thought.

Jason lays out some ACCURATE, TELLING Truths.

When I was at State, there was a large number of kids from the mean streets of from Chicago, da Region and Indianapolis... I never worried about my safety. 'Course, (silly me) I was rarely out after midnight (T-H was a staid place), I did NOT venture into the dark corners of campus and ignored the "silliness" that sucks a lot of knuckle-headed kids in to dumb situations.

With the NRA's goal of arming everyone; with many States' movement to let ALL carry concealed... is THIS a glimpse of the future?

More guns has led to less gun crimes, so I don't think there is the correlation you are referring to.

Until everyone is armed... I'd say the future is yet to be seen.

what was the motive behind the shooting / attempted murder?

Would the shooter still have tried it if the victim was armed?

I think good people need guns for protection and it will deter some violence. But I also believe that "controlling" the number of guns will not change anything for the better. Good people will be good and bad (violent) people will be bad.

Look through other college police blotters as well.
There was a recent disappearance from West Virginia? Bloomington is still looking for a missing girl... Shootings are happening on other campuses (thankfully ours was a hoax).

Isn't Indianapolis climbing in violent crimes?

The accused was arrested last year in Indy for shooting someone else.

This is not correct. He was a victim of a shooting 4 months ago, shot in the leg. In 2012 he was arrested for theft and possession of stolen property, charges were dismissed. He was a honors graduate from Metropolitan High School, what ever that means. Let's be careful what we post so Jason doesn't get sued.

Amazing what things happen to you when you are doing things you should not be doing in the first place.

Yo S1...ain't dat da twuth...some people are just ignut....and should have their arsses kicked by Campus 5-0 for doin' wrong.

If some of these ISU Gangbangers would just follow some of Chris Rocks advice, there we be a lot less trouble in Abraham Lincoln Quad.

P.S. For those at home with lil kids, or others who do not appreciate the X-Rated uniqueness of Chris Rock...clear the room!

I don't care about other schools though... I only care about Indiana State. At the end of the day, I want Indiana State to have a positive reputation in Indiana as well as nationally and I want the degree to hold value.

Yes, Indianapolis is climbing and damn near all of it comes from inside the loop where Indiana State recruits. That's my point. They need to put less of a focus in IPS and more into the surrounding donut counties that produce better students and will lead to better outcomes even for those FGCS/21CS/PELL kids because they will be around, and this may be an assumption but it is one I'll live with, higher quality, more stable people.

I don't have to tell you how damn impressive the Honors Program is at State. They should be SELLING THE HELL out of that.
