Indiana State Baseball (18-11, 0-0 MVC) earned the sweep over in-state rival, Butler, winning game three by a score of 6-1. Freshman Tyler Ward improved to 3-3 on the mound, while fellow freshman Clay Dungan knocked in three early runs for the Sycamores.

I hate to be a balloon-popper, but they should sweep Butler. If they didn't, it would be upsetting! They did what they should have done as if they were to let down, ISU could have lost.

It was a beautiful day for baseball at Butler. I have thought that a senior citizen admission at IS was one best bargains in D1 athletics. But free admission at Butler was even better. Their marketing program even supplied free pizza. What a concept. It's too bad that no one has ever considered something like athletics and marketing working together, in any capacity, at ISU. It was encouraging to note that the Sycamore supporters out did the Bulldog crowd both in number and in cheering. I'm here to tell you that a couple of friends (play by play), a positive attitude, a nice day and a good team to support makes a day like this hard to beat for an old, vision impaired guy. I'm looking forward to pounding pee-ewe Tuesday in the Haute.

Certainly was not one of the Sycamore's more "explosive" offensive performances, w/ reserve OFer Kyle Moore and DHer Kaden Moore leading the hit parade, each going 2/4.

Bright spot was Ethan Larrison's 1 2/3 IP and retiring all 5 batters faced. Larrison had been struggling w/ control issues.

Good to see Ward go 7 1/3 innings. Don't expect this against Bradley, UE, Dallas Baptist or Mo St. IMO, he's simply not ready for the bigger bats of the MVC. There are NO Butler's in MVC Baseball. What's nice about Ward is 1) his control (1 BB every 6 IP) and 2) he's a GROUND BALL pitcher, which puts the "D" into position for DP's. Today we had a couple. Could be vital in relief while in the crunch.

I did notice a small print AD on P3 of the Trib-Star Sports sec. the other day re: FREE admission for Cub/Boy Scouts (in uniform) and LL players. Saw very few in attendance @ Warn Field. Why they didn't contact Boy Scouts HQ & LL in ADVANCE is beyond me. The "idea" is just the start. How it's carried out is the key. No reason why they couldn't find a "FREE coke & popcorn" sponsor to go along with the offer. Need to visit Holiday World and see what FREE soft-drinks and suntan lotion does for business!

Once again I'll willingly show my ignorance. Where does Butler fit in the Big East? They would be, in by opinion, cellar dwellers in the Valley--at best the best of the bottom 1/3. Just curious.
