A new tradition will be born this Saturday, September 14 when the Indiana State Sycamores take to the Memorial Stadium turf for the first time under first-year head coach Mike Sanford against Quincy. Kick-off is set for 3:05 p.m. (ET).

It's nice to see some changes made and traditions started. "The March" can be very cool if people show up and participate. Let's hope that the reserved space for "The Forest" has to be expanded and the relocated band adds to the atmosphere. You can't say that State is doing little to get people in the stadium--several ways to get free or reduced admission.

One final thought: wouldn't it be great if the combined efforts of the band, The Forest and the home crowd is loud enough to cause confusion and problems to the visiting team! That would be one of the most significant actions in ISU football in decades.

Glad to see they are doing this. I've been at other universities when this is done and it is really cool. It might take a while to catch on, and I hope they don't antsy and abandon it. It will grow, even as our football program grows.

Now, if I could just get them to sit the band on risers in the end zone facing the stands...

I really like the March idea. It's been great the past few years when the band has made it's way around the tailgate area, but will be even better now with the players joining in. Sounds like there are a ton of promos going on too to get people in the stands. I like this approach - do it at the first game, we play an entertaining gam and win big (we should), and hopefully some of these fans who wouldn't have attended otherwise will decide to make it to a couple more games.

Be a Part of "The March"...get there early Saturday

I know there's a thread already started on this, but I wanted to remind everyone again. A new tradition at 12:30. It would be great to have a big crowd for this. Also, heard a rumor the home team will be changing sides of the field...?

What an awesome idea!! Hope we get to participate tomorrow in both tailgating and the march. Tanner's grandpa, his biggest supporter, is in ICU in Evansville. He'll be cheering the team and Tanner on while watching the game on Sycamore Vision. I'll be at the game for sure, rest to be decided....

The sidelines are switching. Vistors will be closest to seats and Sycamores will be next to the knoll on the other side. Seats are also flipping. Forest, band, spirit are all on the locker room side 40 yard line and vistors are on far side in section B.

Unfortunately, I missed the first March but was able to watch it. I was literally idling right behind the busses as they let the players off. Not a bad first go of it as I watched from the car. In talking with people after, I only heard two complaints:

1) Needs to be more coordination between the band and the team. There ended up being a considerable gap between them.
2) Some people weren't happy that Coach Sanford didn't lead the players.

One unintended benefit or consequence (depending on how you look at it) of this is it opens up more parking at Memorial and makes it look more empty as most of the player's drove and parked in the area West of the lockerroom.
