I hate them with a passion, but I voted for Wichita State. They are rabid about their teams, they expect excellence from them, and they are obnoxious in their support. They create a very hostile environment for visiting teams, they don't sit on their hands like a lot of Valley crowds do. I can't stand the way they belittle everyone else, but I wish we had 10,000 fans just like 'em...

Best meaning? Most supportive when times are hard, best meaning they travel the best (i.e Notre Dame) or is the word best all inclusive? Sorry to be difficult, I just don't really know what you are looking for here. I mean you could make a case for several on the list.

I guess I am inclined to go with Creighton because they have one of the smaller enrollment numbers in the Valley but they have one of the highest attendance averages. They have also been pretty darn successful over the past decade, thus not many bad teams to cheer for.

Indiana State might have the worst crowd.. This is only my 2nd year here at ISU and I've never seen an exciting crowd at the game (Wasn't here for the Ill St game when it was sold out cause of ServPro).

The game may have been "sold out" because all the tickets were bought, but there was still plenty of good seating at that game too.

I think I saw this poll on valleytalk. Why anyone would vote for someone other than their own fan base is beyond me.

Why would anyone not vote for their own fanbase? It's simple, really. Some fans are just better "fans" than others. I figure that having a great fanbase implies that your fans are rabid, illogically devoted to their team. They should be a group that creates a stunningly hostile atmosphere for visiting teams. They should bleed their school colors through thick or thin.

Our fans, for the most part, do not fit that bill in my opinion. Our fans are not rabid fans. We're so conditioned to the bottom falling out that we not only expect it, but we find ridiculous stuff to complain about when we're doing well, just so we can complain. Our fans do not create a hostile atmosphere in Hulman Center. The students have abandoned the team - AGAIN, at least as far as I could tell from before the Christmas break. (Having 100 students at a game doesn't quite fit the "good" definition to me...) Many of our "fans" still come to games in a red IU sweater. I guess they figured that getting 2 out of 3 initials isn't bad...

We have a great core of fans that have been here through thick and thin. However, our "fanbase" isn't all that great, although it can grow to be great. I'd kill to have an arena full of serious nutcases who wear facepaint and throw women's panties on the court when an opposing player who was accused of rape gets introduced in the starting lineups. (That actually happened at Duke, by the way...) Our fanbase isn't all that interested - yet - in being illogically devoted to the Sycamores. It can get there - I remember students camping out in blizzards during Bird's days just to get a good seat. But we aren't there yet...

Yeah, but you don't get there by posting a poll like this and then voting for another team's fan base on YOUR OWN BOARD, simply because you want an honest, non-biased opinion. Who cares how good Creighton fans are? My team is Indiana State and as far as I'm concerned we're the best around.

In all seriousness though. It's not about being blindly devoted, it's about showing the dedication and passion for the team that so many Sycamore fans complain about us lacking. You guys gripe about people in the community not showing enough interest and having a defeated attitude, but then come here and perpetuate some of the same BS by voting for Creighton (the traditional conference power) in a poll about the best fan base.

Bent you present a very good argument, but to twist it around and try and convince people that Indiana State University has the best fan base is silly, maybe the question should read who has the worst fan base, I am sure you will find that more people on here would answer that we have the worst fan base than the best fan base.

This is why polls around here get distorted, because people think that you are turning your back on the team or a player if you talk in a negative light. It's almost like being in denial to think that we have the very best fan base in the Valley, because that is far from the truth whether we would like to admit it or not.

Case and point: we have several folks on here including myself (and you) that would miss an Indiana State game to stay home and watch the Colts playoff game. True? Now how does that exemplify a quality that a "best" fan base should have? And this is coming from someone who eats, sleeps and breaths Indiana State University?

We are not the "best" fan base and I assure you that it's not the fault of anyone who frequents this board on a regular basis, because folks around here are the "best" fans that Sycamore nation has to offer - but we only reach so far!

Not a fair argument though. There is no highly successful professional team anywhere close to Omaha. No competition. Makes it easy to be the biggest thing going when you're just about all that is going. I'm sure a lot of Creighton fans also are diehards for Nebraska football, but that's probably about it.

As for missing a Colts game for the Sycamores. Yes, I have. I came to town for the homecoming football game. Spent Sunday making the long drive home and caught the very end of the Colts victory over the Rams. Now yes, it was only the Rams, but still.

Bent don't get me wrong I appriciate your perspective and passion as a fan of both the Sycamores and Colts - but to say that you are turning your back on the Sycamores if you don't think we have the best fan base is silly to me... We clearly do not have the best fan base, look I drove 3 hours mid week to watch the Sycamores play Southern Illinois and let me tell you something bent, their were not but maybe 5 Sycamore fans in that entire building - not even behind the bench. You are paddling up stream with this battle man, we had NO fans make the drive over to watch the team open up Mo Val play. Not the "best" fan base at all.

I gotta agree with Morgan on this one. The Sycamore fans that we do have are die hards, but to say we have the "Best Fan Base" is a little much.

I wouldn't. That's why I have a blackberry... I can keep up with the Colts on-line a whole lot easier than I can with the Sycamores.

It's another reason that I keep telling the Athletic office that they need to use the scoreboard more efficiently. If people KNEW that they would get football game updates while watching the sycamores, maybe more would come to the game.

I would love to have all MVC scores for the day up on the scoreboard during play and timeouts. Standings as well. Quit using it as an advertising billboard, and use it as a tool... then people will pay attention to it more often, making the advertising more successful.

Scoreboard Use

Amen to that. So much could be done with minimal effort. Why isn't it?????????????

I barely pay attention to the scorebaord because there is rarely anything worthwhile on it except the occasional great play replay . Most expensive advertising tool the school has ever bought. If your not going to use it right why have it hanging from the rafters.
