Can't wait to see how this is slanted towards the P5. I'm sure it won't be a good thing for mid-majors...

I'm with you.

I don't trust them to put anything together that would favor the mid majors. It might or might not hurt some select mid majors depending on how the schedule and certain mid majors collective efforts in a given year. But whom ever was tasked with coming up with this new system wasn't born yesterday and they didn't tell them to make sure that the mid majors were taken into consideration - they said and I quote (ha) "please make sure that the B10, ACC, SEC, Big12 are protected - we want our 6, 7 and 8 place teams in those conferences to be in the tournament every year". Okay gotcha - I've got the perfect algorithm for that.

That's exactly how I see it playing out regardless of how it really plays/ed out.

One of the most irritating things about the selection is when they take teams that are .500 or less in their conference. And you can bet they didn't have many "quality" wins outside of their conference. Most average teams that get to play every other conference team AT HOME are going to win some games.

This is further amplified when you considered most of those schools non-con games were all home games against low majors or the bottom crust of mid-major schools.

I don't care what system they put in place my mind is made up on how this shit has and will work moving forward. If you're a mid major and you want to play in the NCAA Tournament then you better do a few of the following things:

- Win your conference regular season.

- Win your conference tournament. (Auto Bid)

- Win more than 21 or 22 games in a given season (20 isn't close to enough)

- Play a mediocre non conference schedule. Don't play high major power programs just to say you will play anyone. They don't reward competitive desire to be relevant.

- At the very least make your conference tournament championship game. Ya gotta make it - don't get beat by some chicken shit program in the 2nd round.

This is how I see it. I don't care about RPI. The new system. KenPom. SOS. None of that shit matters. They're not looking at mid majors that don't do the things I suggested to fill out the field. They will fill out the field with .500 power 5 schools that will still sell a lot of tickets and then they will sit back and chuckle at those schools getting beat by the very best mid majors they could find (or better yet - that found themselves) and they've suddenly created a narrative for TV that makes them millions. They don't make money on a Mid Major that has good story to tell as to why they should be in the tournament - they couldn't give a shit about your story.

Agree with this but I'd go as high as win 25 or more. Don't think even 22 is close enough.

ya I was trying to come up with a good number - I agree sith you I am probably a little shy. Split the difference you might have it but a magic number definitely exists in my opinion

I have sid it before and will likely say it again. Tell the P5 and the other elite few they will accept to go play with them selves. The rest of us can regroup, reorganize and redraw conference affiliation. Rivalries can be reestablished.

You do realize they take the money and broadcasting with them, right?

Gonna happen eventually, whether everyone stays in the NCAA or not. The P5 do NOT want to share. And they'll create a system where they don't have to. So, eventually, other than scraps here and there, we'll basically be on our own anyway...

But for Proud's idea to work, everyone has to leave. That's why it won't happen. Too many mid and lower AD's that covet a P5 job someday...

I don't think it will ever happen. If it does, it's likely the end of scholarship college athletics and we're moving to a club sports model that ole GaryD preached about way back when.

You're right that ADs coveting those power jobs. I also don't think schools would allow it to happen because of capital investments made in facilities. Having 10, 20 or 50k seat stadiums sitting empty collecting dust would be a tough sell to boards, alumni, etc. Its just easier to take on debt and kick it down the road for the next poor soul taking over.

I do. It will happen anyway. P5 would have it today if they could--and I don't think it's too far off. I see things somewhat like the old ICC becoming common. ISU would go that way. BSU would want P5 status, but no one would want them. No I'm not sure it could work, but I'll bet others think of it either. Don't I remember something like this being brought up here in the past few years?
