The Saint Louis Billikens will host Indiana State in the first round of the 2010 College Basketball Invitational Tuesday, March 16. Game time at Chaifetz Arena is 8 p.m. The game will be televised by HD Net.

The Billikens play in the postseason for the first time since the 2004 National Invitational Tournament. SLU is 20-11 and finished fourth in the Atlantic 10 Conference with an 11-5 slate. Indiana State is 17-14 and posted a 9-9 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Sycamores fell to Illinois State in the MVC Tournament. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to be played March 22 against the winner of the Akron vs. UW-Green Bay game.

The CBI features 16 teams from across the country playing for a postseason championship with each game played on home campus sites. The first three rounds of the CBI are single-elimination. The two teams competing for the title will play a best-of-three series with the higher seed hosting two games should a third be necessary.
Ticket information will be released on Monday morning. The Billiken ticket office at Chaifetz Arena will open at 8:30 a.m.

A tough match-up for the sycamores. I've watched SLU play a handful of times this season. They play tough, pass around for open shots, and play good defense. Two players to watch are Kwame Mitchell (PG) and Willie Reed (C). Mitchell is a great PG and tough to defend. Reed is a force in the post, but he struggles to shoot FT's. Might be a good game for a hack-a-shaq approach.

Thoughts on the game...

The only thing Majerous does better than coaching is eating!

Will he use this game/tourney as a platform to take the Billikens back to The Valley?

Shouldn't the Valley add 2 schools (if they expand)?

:sycamores: FEAR THE TREES! :sycamores:

I've always wanted Saint Louis in the Valley. Are they really looking to move away from the A-10? I think if I could add two teams, I try to get Saint Louis and Butler and call it a day.

Majerus has been complaining about the travel schedule the whole A-10 season (he also got held up by weather in Philly I think at one point after a game). Majerus wants to be in the MVC. The President of SLU seemingly does not and wants to stay in the A-10. It's been a soap opera.

They'd be a good fit; academically, they'd set the bar for everyone else; probably why the Univ. President is against the idea -- the A-10 schools have a bit more / bigger profile.

MBB -- great history, an NIT title; some great former players

Butler? I don't think they'd join the MVC -- they know they wouldn't / couldn't dominate it (though they THINK they would a la Penn St and B10 football...)

Should the MVC add a football and non-football school?

No No No

I think adding any teams to the Valley is a bad idea. We play a balanced scheduled home and home which would go away if we added teams. Plus, the conference tournament is on a totally neutral site which is fantastic. Stop trying to fix things that are not broken.

Maybe the MVC 'swaps' teams...adding SLU and dropping someone? Wasn't there a columnist advocating the ouster of Indiana State? Thinking it was a St Louis or Peoria based sportswriter...

On a separate note, is the CBI seeded?

We do have the fewest wins in our bracket...

Back to the game, Saint Louis is a very young team. Looks like Majerus has done a great job in recruiting and coaching these kids up. Very few upperclassmen and top players are freshmen and sopohomores.

The arena itself is nice to watch a game in. SLU did well late in the season getting fans in the building for games. Many of them are upset they did not make the NIT, so I don't know how attendance will be for this one.

I think this guy changed his article, because this morning, there was no mention of ISU, except someone who gently brought our bid to the attention of folks in the comment section. Hmm, maybe the writers do read that stuff???

They do read the comments. The articles are living and breathing over there.
