The Varsity Level
Quick question here. Bell is a stud, but with him and Cheese both soph's and both very good, do you keep them both at rb or do you move cheese? I was thinking with Cheese being such a good athlete, what about safety next year? I just think he's too athletic and fast to not be on the field as much as possible. What do you guys think?

Don't think he's tall enough to effectively move to another position. Besides, he's a very good RB and there is certainly nothing wrong with having a lot of depth.

The type of offense we have, if Watkins takes over under center we could easily transition into a Florida type offense where multiple backs are utilized...

Should add that I think Cheeseborough is going to get better and better at RB. We've moved guys around in the past and I think it has worked against us at times. Now that Miles has his recruiting well established I don't think we'll need to do it as much.

Yeah depth is just apart of it. There r lots of good athletes on this team that aren't hitting the field. Plus what if bell goes down and cheese is a good athlete but he isn't so good of an athlete that he woukd just out perform the guys who are already skilled at the position. Kamerin Mitchell is one if the best athletes on the field who doesn't get to play anddo t k ow if he still and haven't even heard from him. I understand what u r saying about wasted athleticism but that is why he was on kick return. When u get a program built that is a good problem to have. I feel more for glass than anyone on the team

In addition, a transition like this would take at least a year or two for an athlete to be effective...I honestly think the future RB to compliment Shakir will be Luke Harris. We are at a level now where we need to utilize these good athletes on special teams if they're able and willing to block and tackle. Like I mentioned in a previous thread, this will be a new and big challenge for Trent keeping these players "satisfied" with their role even if it's not where they think they should be playing...when you get to this level it's about the team and not individual "wants".

When you have a RB that size of Bell its very important to have a solid back up RB like Cheese. If not a solid back up to Cheese the answer is no that would be a terrible idea.

I think the days of an "every down back" are long gone. especially if you mean every game for 4 years too.

Every down backs are non existent for the most part in today's game of football. Question:would Shaun alexander be successful in today's NFL? I think as part of a time share maybe.
