I just saw on Twitter from Rick Semmler that Coach Ragland has accepted assistant coaching position at Bowling Green under Chris Jans (from Wichita st). So now we have a coaching spot open. I wonder if we already have any candidates to fill this position. If I'm not mistaken, I thing Ragland worked with the guards during his time here.

Chrisitan Laettner, last I saw, was an assistant coach for the D-League franchise in Fort Wayne. Would love to see someone like him.

Or an older, more experienced coach. Kinda like Bird had on his staff when he was coaching the Pacers.

Had heard about this but could never get anything concrete. Makes sense... those JUCO guys stick together.

I don't think he is a coach anymore. I tried to look that info up last time it was mentioned and could never find anything concrete.

The problem here, like always, is we're hamstrung by salary. That said, you may not be too far off in scouring the D-Leagues for an assistant, especially if you are looking for someone that can work with bigs. I was actually watching a game on the NBA channel not too long ago and the Idaho team has/had Zendon Hamilton and Rob Werdann as assistants. Both were high major centers in college and maybe someone like that could be had for what we can pay? We're getting to the point where the school has to make a decision on putting more resources into the program. We can't afford to sink back into mediocrity with Odum now gone.

Rags was bumped to $70k last year per the BoT minutes: http://www.indstate.edu/trustees/docs/3May2013Minutes.pdf

Well, you know who came by a game by the this season by the name of Pat Knight??????? He understands the motion offense and maybe looking for a spring board to get back to a HC job......

To be honest I'd be happy either way. He'd be a hell of a guards coach. I'd rather see him go pro though. When do they plan to announce it?

I made the same "suggestion" that you did on Twitter - Odum said he already asked them and they turned him away. Hard pressed to get that job at the age of 25 especially in small town USA, Terre Haute, IN. Youth = Pay your dues and maybe we will consider you.

Odum would likely need to follow the traditional route if he wanted to get into coaching. He'd likely need to get a grad assistant or DOBO job depending on the level. After a couple years doing that, he probably could get an entry level assistant gig. Very few people just quit playing and walk into assistant coach gigs. About the only one I recall after reading bios recently was Greg Pawlus at Ohio State who was an assistant at Navy after finishing up his college eligibility with Syracuse. That said, many are pegging his as the next can't miss head coaching guy.

He has a pretty sweet gig with the Pacers, no? Would he want to trade scouting for recruiting?

I double Nicks will get caught up in any "house cleaning" IF the Pacers implode in the playoffs...

As to that other 'personality' --- we don't need the drama (and abuse) that are sure to follow a hiring of Patricia Knight; I think Dr Bradley has more sense than that... as does Coach Lansing and Mr Prettyman.

Veil your warning any way you want. I don't think any of the aforementioned administrators or Coach give a rat's ass what you think.

Golden tweeted that ISU will not announce Ragland's replacement today, but "staff does have David Ragland's replacement identified."
