I don't feel like Notre Dame actually deserves to make the playoffs this year. To me they played two pretty good teams and lost both games, and lost the head to head with the team they are supposedly fighting for the last spot with. If Notre Dame gets in it's just because they're name is Notre Dame in my opinion.
You can leave ND out of the playoffs, but you’re leaving a team out that after the first 2 losses had been on fire. ND is capable of winning the championship, like Bama, or Miami. Teams like Tulane shouldn’t even been in the discussion let alone left out.
It’s going to be criticized by good teams that didn’t make it, and sure enough the talk will be expand the teams participating.

A little late to this discussion, but in my humble opinion, IU over the past two years is the greatest coaching job ever. I was a skeptic, but the proof was in the pudding last night. Cignetti and his staff are worth every nickel that IU is paying them. One of the best college football games I have watched. And, before you lambaste me for being a bandwagon jumper, I'm not. I am just completely amazed at what he, his staff, and the players have accomplished.

No doubt!!

Yeah I hate IU with a passion. But their football squad is super easy to root for. In all honesty their run this year reminds me of our run a couple years ago. You can just feel the years/decades of frustration lifting off that fanbases shoulders with every play. The fact that they got to play for the B10 title in their backyard (just like our NIT run) just created one of those moments where the stars align like a movie script. I hate IU, but I can relate to what they are experience right now. They just have the $$$$$ to keep it going....bastards,

Yes they have money, but the players and coaches earned this. I’m not a IU fan either, but!!!

A good piece highlighting some legit issues regarding a 'legit' playoff system for (FBS) college football...

This latest "controversy" with Notre Dame is a fresh reminder of why I've always hated that program up there. They played two playoff quality teams all year and lost both times and I'm supposed to feel sorry for them not making the playoffs? The only people mad are their people at the university and their bandwagon fan base.

I get that they make more money being independent and that they are contracted to playing 5 ACC schools a year, but they literally have 7 slots available to where they could schedule some legit schools, but they never schedule tough. Like they should be playing Michigan and probably Ohio State every year, but of course those schools would beat them more times than not, so they'd rather keep Purdue, Navy, and their fake rivalry with Stanford (from 1988) around for some easy wins.

Either that or I'm sure they could join the ACC in football and still pull off some sweetheart deal where they'd still make just as much tv money as they do now. Then they could win the AQ and quit their whining.

I agree they should have a tougher schedule. I think they should also stop playing Purdue or Michigan State all the time, and yes, get Michigan and now IU on their schedule. Even Illinois who the last couple of years has had some good teams. Get more good SEC teams on their schedule like Alabama or Ole Miss. But the criticism they are taking for not playing in the bowl game is way over the top with ND haters. Several teams have opted out of the meaningless bowl games, but only ND gets the cry baby crap from the haters.

notre dame is getting the "cry baby crap" from the "haters" because the ARE a bunch of whiny, cry babies.

did their coach resign of the current "state of the game" and use that as a reason (coaching change) to decline the bowl like kansas state?
did their coach resign for a 'better job' and use that as a reason (coaching change) to decline the bowl like iowa state?
did they have a middling year, face a slew of transfers and potentially have a thin roster to take the field?

the answer is of course, NO! No, their Athl Director continues to piss, moan and bitch about NOT being invited; continues to blame anyone/EVERYONE but himself and freeman - their schedule is THEIR schedule - period.

They are under ZERO iron-clad contracts to play who they play; EVERY game can me re$cheduled and/or $an$eled.

You REALLY think they're going to bring michigan back on the schedule? they've always struggled with michigan, a big reason why that "rivalry" isn't an annual one.

"dropping" mich state and purdue; two of "most played" games, two of the "most losses to" series - natural a 'fan' such as yourself would advocate to drop.

I thought perhaps they were recruits from San Francisco and believed it was not a crime unless the value of articles exceeded $1,000. It can be very confusing for young people these days when they travel.
I doubt any were from california -- after all Cam Newton and Jamesis Winston were from The South, they had their fair share of criminal acts in college as well
