I keep seeing ISU basketball pictures with the players wearing the Columbia Blue uniforms. It appears as though these uniforms are here to stay and will probably be worn more than any of the other ones. I'm okay with it........

I would buy some of those shorts for sure........ I'm trying to get one of the old warm-up jackets that they wore when my dad played there (71-74). They were amazing........ There is one hanging up in the ballyhoo. When you go into the new part (dance room) look directly above the door. It's awesome.......

am I the only one...

who doesn't know the school colors are:

Navy Blue and White / Royal Blue and White / 'Columbia' Blue and White?

Well, just a bit of trivia
the colors used to be Salmon and White. (Pink and white)....glad we changed that way back in the late 1890s. As I was told in Univ. 101.

I like the columbia blue, but most important I like the use of the state of indiana as the "I" in indiana.

I'd just like to see some consistency in our uniforms. I still think the powder blue should be saved for big games.

I have seen pictures but can't remember when they wore red. But they still have red on the hat don't they? The arrow or spear or whatever it is

No red on the baseball caps

I don't think there's any red on any of State's uniforms; the baseball team dropped the spear on the baseball cap years ago -- the current logo is an interlocked I S

I don't recognize the font but it's low on my 'like' list -- looks like somebody w/ a SEVERE hangover or still drunk was writing it.

I agree w/ Bent20 -- CONSISTENCY. The LB-era blues should ONLY be worn for BIG games.

They changed from Salmon and White to Yale Blue and White in 1899.
In 1899, it was announced that Yale Blue and White would replace the colors of Salmon Pink and White. The colors are also applied to the Blue and White Parade and the Blue and White Dance held during Homecoming each fall. http://www.indstate.edu/whyisu/history_trad.htm

So, how did we get to Columbia Blue and now Royal Blue?!

Was/Is there really a University 101? Mandatory? I don't remember that class from the catalog...

My understanding is that Bob King went to the lighter blue to sort of make a "new statement" about ISU, set us apart. What you are all forgetting is the cool PINSTRIPED shorts that were worn in 77-78!!!

I personally like the Royal Blue. Much nicer color than Navy. I was always told while at school that the official color has been Royal Blue since it changed from Salmon. Thank the Good Lord for that change...

Well it if IS Royal Blue...

they need to update their own 'History and Traditions' webpage.

I can live w/ either Navy Blue or Royal Blue -- just PICK one and stick with it!

If we put it to a vote -- I'm voting for Navy

I like royal blue myself. It's a good connection to the success the Colts have had in Indy and we should use the same colors for all of our sports teams. Plus the royal blue and white looks sharp. Our powder blues actually remind me more of North Carolina's uniforms than they do the Bird era Sycamores, probably because the style of the uniforms is so drastically different than it was 30 years ago. Thank goodness.

Also, I don't ever remember us wearing navy blue. Navy blue is almost black. Notre Dama wears Navy blue. If we switch to that it's a pretty extreme departure.

How many shades of Royal are there?

I don't know but the uni's worn by Menser and Co. were pretty dark; some of the Royal Blue I see now (T/F, X-Country is very bright, maybe Royal but still BRIGHT!)

When I think of Navy Blue, I think of Yale and the NY Yankees, occasionally Butler.

I see no need for a connection w/ the Colts; you could make the same argument for the Pacers or the Indianapolis Indians (both w/ longer/deeper ties to Indiana.)

Except that the Colts are highly successful right now and have colors that more closely match Indiana State's - white and royal blue.

I think we should switch back to Salmon Pink and White..... Heck, we should even re-adopt the old nickname....... the "Fighting Teachers"......... Maybe we could even bring back Chief Quabache (did I spell that right?)
