The final drawing and numbers have been worked out - both sides are simply crossing their T's and dotting their I's. However I can assure you at this time the the construction on the baseball field will start no later than this time next week.

Finally! The contractor and the University have had several meetings over the last couple of weeks and have final meetings this week before construction begins!

Rejoice!

Thanks for the update Morgan, great to hear.....have been looking forward to seeing the machinery at 1st and locust for quite some time!!!!

Any information on change orders for construction? Seating capacity change, hitting facility, ect....or are we similar to original plans?

Yeeesss!! Looks like we made it under the weather wire to get it totally done for the start of the season! Yes, it will be interesting to get the new drawings and specs. I'm sure that even if it is downsized somewhat, it will be a jewel!

Will seat roughly 800 +. Any downgrades in seating capacity or restroom size was due to the fact that at this time the University will not explore the chance to bring in a minor league team. However if they do think about doing something like that in the future the stadium will have the ability to add more seating and restrooms. Becuase their are restrictions on how many seats and how many restrooms your stadium has to have to host a minor league team, bla bla bla...

That's too bad. I would have enjoyed coming back to the Haute and taking in a summer league baseball game or two.

Huh?

They dropped the planned seating by 800 seats...

Didn't the old stadium seat like 1,250?

Why in the world would you build completely new and shrink the joint?

Again that is a rough number that might not include bench seating, that number might be speaking specifically to actually seats. We are talking about nice comfrotable seats here...

I'd buy...

800 chair back seats...

Hopefully, the skeleton will be designed to allow any easy upgrade from bleachers to chairbacks as well as adding 'roofing'

If that seating figure is correct, Ron can forget hosting the MVC tournament, which he said was his goal. Really, that's too bad. It never seems that ISU is able to fulfill its hopes when they build a facility. I would rather they not come out with the plans they originally did, then cut them in half. That diminishes the allure of the project. Makes us seem small-time. I'm sure it will be nice though...

Well don't let this take away from the excitement of getting a brand new facility... Come on people, we are in the heart of recession and we happen to be building things all over campus. I mean it's better than nothing (like the track team get's).

Originally they were counting on money from a minor league team of some sorts that would essentially help fund the construction, when that fell through then they had to make some cuts to stay within budget.

Remember, the new plan allows for future expansion. That is a key point. What about parking? Are we getting paved lots?

Minor League??

If anyone at State thought that the Prospect League has the $$$ to defray the cost of the new stadium -- they're smoking something!

Thought that the stadium was supposed to be 'built to a PL standard' but I don't think they're as strict as MiLB standards...

Ideally, the stadium will be great w/ easy expansion; don;t know if iu did that w/ their football stadium 'makeover' but when purdue redid ross-ade, they bought designs plans to take it from it current design (62.5K) to ~80K. All of the 'hard work' is complete; per their AD when purdue can write a check and the DEMAND is there, they'll had the add'l 18K seats.

So, State should pay for design / engineering work and construct what they can afford today, with an eye for the future.

They need to take the Hamilton County approach to things which is build what you want then find a way to pay for it.

Perhaps ISU could hire Carmel mayor Jim Brainard as our new "Director of Special Projects.". He can obviously get these things done without any actual money in hand. Then, Morgan could get his indoor track stadium!!!

I think the people at Indiana State and Terre Haute are truly competent enough to make something like this happen. I don't doubt that, it's just sometimes they need a little push or a big push in the right direction that's all. They know everything that I have already stated in a previous post, a reminder never hurt anyone. Now all I can do is

That a boy! So I can hit you up for a donation as well? You willing to commit $100 to $200 bones? If so I will send you a t-shirt! lol

Athletic Director Ron Prettyman says the final meeting with President Bradley and the Construction Managers was yesterday (9/2) and that we should see heavy equipment rolling right after Labor Day. Don't know any specifics about the details of the project. Hopefully we'll see something about it soon on gosycamores.com.
