"ISU has many generous athletic donors, but CSA said the Sycamores must redouble their efforts to expand the scope of giving."

The first part of that sentence is kinda funny, but I'll accept it as true since we absolutely do have generous donors, ie the Rentschlers.

The second part of the sentence is EFFING HYSTERICAL!!! We needed a paid consultant to tell us that!?!?!??! HAHAHA!!!!

Clink states that the university contributing 78% of the athletic budget from the general fund (see student fees) shows how strongly the school supports athletics.

well, that certainly is one way to look at it. Lol

That is the old making chicken salad out of chicken shit.

If they gave the students a chance to opt out of that fee today, our athletics programs end tomorrow.

"The ISU fanbase is small and loyal, but currently uninspired, disengaged and apathetic."

CSA's words, not mine. I'll just add if football doesn't win this year after taking all this time off to "develop"--and if Shertz doesn't win this year or next--it'll only get much, much worse.

Did anyone else feel like the reasons for keeping football as-is were a little too general and not particularly thought out?

The reasons for not going non-scholarship made sense, but the others felt like throwaway excuses.

Yeah, they were nonsense. First:

CSA also stated that, “financial impacts not withstanding, there are other consequences to be considered such as the impact on the ISU brand, its image, and relationships within its alumni base and the local community. These are not insignificant factors.”

But:

The ISU fanbase is small and loyal, but currently uninspired, disengaged, and apathetic.

This does not compute and even anyone with an ISU degree can figure it out, especially when looking at the math. Then:

CSA also stated that non-scholarship or no football would result in a significant decrease in African-American male students at ISU.

Say what? 2021 undergrad enrollment was 8023 with 1211 of them being African-American, roughly 15%. Even if you said every scholarship football player was AA, which they are not, it would be a headcount loss of 63, dropping it to a whopping 14.3%. That is what even my non-math ass would call statistically insignificant.

It’s dropped that much?!? I believe we were consistently hovering around the 12k-13k (and growing) when I was there in 2013.

Exactly. We can’t drop it because of the impact on our brand? What the what? What football brand do we exactly have here? It also says this reason is not insignificant, but gives zero quantitative support as to why that happens to be the case. I could just as equally argue, with little facts or figures, that having football is negatively impacting our brand.

Secondly, the impact on the male African American student body number is just a lazy, current-events driven narrative that everyone nods their head to without any actual math backing that claim up either.

This is the same bullshit type of study that happened with homecoming. Feels like this group was hired to substantiate an opinion already in place rather than give a true, unbiased look at the situation.

I am one of the 583 people that responded to the survey, and I’m now seeing why 1,400+ other people decided it was a waste of time. Because it was.

Wondering if in another decade (10 yrs), ISU will finally "budget" for a Ticket Sales/Marketing position? For a school that expounds the quality of their School of Business and Sports Mgt. programs, it's damn sad that they're incapable of addressing this issue.
