The Cubs are typically a pretty predictable and conservative organization… To go out and get Craig Counsel from inner division rival Milwaukee, one of the best managers in baseball and replace former Cubs player and quite frankly just meh manager David Ross is a massive move that no one saw coming.

I can’t imagine the Cubs making this move and not spending heavily in FA the next couple years. Last time they did this when hiring Joe Maddon they made moves to win and win now. Should be interesting - the NL Central is pretty gettable right now.

Just wow - this one rocked me!

Yeah, I like this move..... A LOT! I really like Rossy, but wasn't a fan of his managing style or his many questionable in-game changes. Having said that, I sure as hell didn't see this coming. I agree with you, they wouldn't make this move and not push to win NOW!

Obviously what Ross meant to that 2016 title run was pretty massive. But I didn’t like the hire on day 1 and I’m thrilled to see him go (assuming he’s gone).

Would be interesting to see if the Brewers try and go after him now? That would be wild. Although, I highly doubt he gets another head coaching job. I mean maybe pretty likable guy but I didn’t care for him as a manger. That collapse this year was pretty remarkable and fireable for me anyway.

The worst thing that ever happened to the Cubs was them winning. Now their fans are all a bunch of whiny babies that actually have expectations, where as before they could "fly the L" and no one cared. I used to think Cardinals fans were annoying until the Cubs starting winning.

You know....I'm starting to not like you. Haha.....and Cardinals' fans are annoying.

I think you're (again) confusing Cubbie fans for BoSox fans -- the only MLB fanbase WORSE than Phillies phans are fans of the AL franchise in Boston, a larger group of :poop:heads CANNOT be found

That has been the rumor... that they're going to be in on all of the big names including Otani. I think they realize how much money they left on the table when they sold off early after the 2016 team.

Yeah I think they are trying to make a case beyond $$$ to Otani because they ain’t going to buy him. I’d say if they don’t get him and some how they don’t get Belli.

They are going to make moves for names like Soto, Alonso and probably a top starting pitcher or so. Even if we don’t land probably the top 2 names in FA’cy I think Cubs are buying and will be in good shape. They have the best Manger they’ve had since they let Joe Maddon walk which was a mistake - now we’re in decent shape.

Think that is why they're linked to his buddy Matsui that is coming over this offseason.

Yep - absolutely trying to make a bigger play. I agree. It’s possible. The theft of Counsel would signal they’re clearly not playing around. I think this sent shockwaves through MLB - not only for taking a conference rivals manager, but paying him an historical and probably well deserved contract.

Ugh. Cubs look like they're not messing around. Cardinals better do something substantial, or we're looking at maybe 4th-5th place finish.

No way the Cubs are standing pat. They’ll definitely go after the big names in free agency.
We can also speculate that the Brewers run is coming to an end
