Anyone else kind of get the wind taken off their fandom sails after that MTE? That was a brutal trip to Ruston, LA. Hopefully the team can respond in a positive way from that embarrassing display. I really thought we were heading in the right direction after the Ball State second half, but apparently it was just Ball State being even worse than us. If we don't come out and show better play against Eureka, then I'm not sure we have what it will take to finish above 9/10th in the league. I wanted to believe we were a better shooting team than what we say early on, but now 8 games in we aren't shooting any better. That, mixed with some questionable to even bad coaching, has the future of this season feeling quite lackluster. Does HCMG really make that big of a difference? If he does, this sure doesn't say a whole lot about your staff. Sorry, just rambling and venting some frustration this morning on the eve of another Non D1 home game. If possible, help walk me back from the metaphorical fandom cliff edge.

Yes, without question.

The realization that we absolutely cannot shoot the basketball gives me little hope going forward knowing that our offense is predicated on that very thing. Our 3FG% continues to drop and is now at 26.6%, which puts us tied for 346th in the country. Our eFG% has now dropped below 50% and we're tied for 274th in the country there, too.

Shooting % with 10 or more 3FGA:

37.5% - JVB
31.7% - Young
26.8% - Camp
22.2% - Bruno
21.1% - Harding
11.8% - Hall

That is just attrocious.

We cannot run the system effectively with the roster as it is constructed. Nor do we have the individual talent to get buckets when we need one, either. There is now a good chance, unless shooting drastically (magically?) changes, that we could struggle to get to 10 wins. Wish I had some rainbows and puppy dogs to serve up, but I just don't.

Unfortunately, I agree about our shooting, or lack there of. If not correceted the problem is going to compound itself, unfortunately. If we dont start playing better and have a decent season, you will see financial support dwindle. There are a lot of folks giving at the $20 to $50 a month range who will stop giving if they feel like its a waste....and putting out this type of product would/should be considered a waste. I will not stop financially supporting, but I have heard several folks say they feel like they could use the money elsewhere if this is what we can expect. Who can blame them when money doesn't go as far as it use to. I hope it doesn't come to that and we start shooting the ball like Coach Sless keeps saying we can.

Who is MK, will he help us?
Martin Kaupanger. He was turning some heads early in practice, but he decided to redshirt and not waste a year of eligibility. Maybe he saw what this season would look like?.....I don't know. All I know, is we were told repeatedly how much more ahead this team was than last years, and nothing could be farther from the truth.

It's all good. I feel same. Very disappointed. Other MVC teams are improving. I think we've gotten worse for some reason and the sad part is I've seen NO indication it's going to get better this year.

Assuming there is relatively wide talent gap tomorrow some of those numbers should tick up a little after the game, no?

While true, other MVC teams also have dropped a bad loss as well. So while disappointing it’s not end of the world just yet. Main focus will be conference (at least for me).

That’s Clank to you at 26.8%.

To raise their averages to 35%:

Young would need to hit 3 in a row.
Bruno and Harding would need to hit 6 in a row.
Hall would need to hit 7 in a row.
Camp would need to hit 9 in a row.

I think most of you know that I usually take an optimistic pov, but gotta admit, this season is toast. We simply dont have the talent to compete in the Valley this year. Most glaring is that we don't have a single player that can go and get you a basket at crunch time. I had hoped that Young would be that player, who could make up for what Teel brought to the team last year, but so far he's not even close. And it probably was unfair to expect Wagner or Scott to step up to another level. We do have a bunch of decent role players, but thats it. Wish it was different.

I stand by statement where I have I said at the beginning of the season. We aren’t a top 4 team so anywhere from 5-10. I have seen almost all Valley teams play a little bit so we aren’t dead to the rights.

It’s the morning of game day and it’s not even fun to wonder…

If we’ll score more points than vs IL Tech?
If we’ll give up more points than vs IL Tech?
If we’ll shoot better than 26.6% at 3pt line?
If we’ll have more than 4,000 in attendance?
Why ISU is wasting a Baby Blue Out vs a D3 team?

Listened to the coaches show. Graves came on after Sless. Said he is ramping up so he can make his return. He also said he met guys 1 on 1. Will be interesting to see if anything changes.

What was the crux of their comments? Anything insightful or just coach speak?

The only things that I pulled from it was Sless took the blame for not having the guys ready. We are better defensively than last season. Graves and him still believe we are a better shooting team than what our percentages show (Until they show otherwise you are what you are IMO). They emphasised to the guys they have to be better because conference is around the corner and the league did us no favors to start (Bradley, @ILST, Belmont, @UNI, @Drake, UE, ILST, @Murr,@Bradley, Drake). Outside of UE, that is just Brutal.
