Trying to figure out the logic of stranding this population amidst an impoverished area dominated by WWI-vintage "shotgun" homes. My now-deceased aunt resided on 3rd Ave near 25th St...just around the corner. Nearest park/recreation area? Shopping? Aesthetics? At least Deming offered proximity to the RESOURCES of life. I guess one benefit is the Vigo Schools finding a property buyer and federal grants for renovation providing jobs. As far as a reasonable housing "tradeoff" from the 6th & Cherry location with the best interests of occupants in mind, someone's been drinking too much of that 60's bottled water from the sulphur fountain near the old jail.

What's the purpose of keeping an old, worn down school like Warren? Historic value? The area isn't downtown Rome...tear the piece of -hit down and plant the seed of rebirth - build NEW.

Are you kidding? In Terre Haute? People were throwing fits when it was revealed that Thompson Thrift might tear down those ugly-ass buildings between fifth and sixth on Wabash to build the new complex. So, they had to "save" those facades. Only thing that keeps people in Terre Haute happy - don't change anything...

They'll be closer to shopping and parks at the Warren school than they were at Deming.

Anyhow, can you quit derailing every topic on the board? This was about Indiana State picking up the Deming center for future growth.

The building is certainly right in the middle of ISU if the migration across Cherry St. continues. The rooms are fairly small and I don't know how that would affect remodeling for student housing but I don't think the building is in terrible shape. For the right price it could be very useful.

Derailing? My response addressed the selection of the old & antiquated WARREN SCHOOL, which was clearly a major part of the article. I see no "derail" whatsoever...
