Welcome fellas! Congrats on two excellent high school careers!

I would start by taking a look at Scott and Erics weekly training blogs that they update daily. That should give you a pretty good idea what you should be doing on a daily basis. These guys have been successful at this level and know what it takes to get ready for the rigorous Cross Country Season. I think if you ask anyone of them they will tell you how important a strong foundation of training will be to your success and the teams success.

The biggest difference in my mind from high school to college is the competitiveness each day presents. You have to realize that you are fighting for a spot on the bus to make the weekend trips. No man is really ever safe - if you are hurt or inconsistent then coach just is not going to take a chance on you. Their is no need to take a chance on someone in college - their is to much depth. Each day in college athletics presents new challenges - that's what makes it fun.

Thats one thing i am looking forward to the most. I love competion and friendly competion is the best no need to get angry if you get beat you may win tomorow

Both of us were putting in 60 mile weeks last summer for base. occasionally we'd hit a bit higher like 65ish, but not consistently.

my advice, college cross country is a longer season with much higher mileage than HS, so don't feel bad if you're not in top shape when the season begins, you have a long time to get in shape and the most important meets are at the end of the season, THAT is when you all want to be in top shape. Don't do anything this summer that is going to cause yourselves to be injured come September when the real training begins.

Just be ready to go come late August.

Well I'd say that's pretty solid summer millage for high school runners. Increase that by 10 to 15 and hold it mid summer I'd say you should be in pretty good shape come Cross Country camp... What you think Scott and Eric? I know coach sends out log books and put suggested mileage... What kind of miles did you guys hit the summer of your Freshman year?

So for you Freshman out there I would say take it easy you do not want to go to hard on these summer runs. You don't want to be in tip top shape when we get back to school. The workouts we do during the season will get us there. This summer I will do a couple of tempos and some fartlecks. I also suggest doing 1 or 2 road races no more than that. I am not saying you have to go do a road race I am just saying not to do more than 2.
