I know this is par for the course for a football program like ours, and it means that we have high quality people working in our program, but man, I gotta think that all this "musical chairs" on the coaching staff is gonna catch up with us sooner or later...

Good luck to Coach Englehart, and thanks for everything!!!

Man, he was a good offensive coordinator too. But people come and go in a good football program which we obviously have here or people wouldn't want our coaches.

Fit

I lived in Melbourne for a decade during the 90's...parents retired in Satellite Beach in '77. FIT is an offshoot from NASA during the mid-50's...an excellent engineering school on par w/ Rose Hulman. Very expensive...

Harris Corporation-Northrop Grumman-KSC act as major economic players, and coupled with the area's zest for football, will propel this program in the next five (5) yrs...take my word. The area (Space Coast) produces some excellent HS players. Who knows, maybe ISU will also tap into this market now that we have an "insider."

Not sure what direction they're pursuing, as the Sunshine State Conference doesn't have football.

I'm kind of confused by this though. He left RH last summer to be an assistant with us and now he's leaving to be an HC again, but at a first-year D-II. Sounds like a lot of moving around for very little advancement, but maybe the money is really good, or he's just anxious to be HC again. Either way, I wish him luck!

Well... while Florida's population has plateaued... it's still leaps and bounds higher than Indiana's; it crazy rich in football talent, he gets to BUILD his OWN program.

Believe a lot of people though Bill Curry was crazy for taking the Georgia State job... look at Larry Coker at texas-San Antonio -- Coker has already publicly stated that he wants to use USoFla as the template for utsa. USF had NO football in 1996; first year of play was 1997, by 2005 they were in the Big East and their first bowl game (they are now 4-2 in bowls)

Yes Englehart is starting at a Div II school BUT is there an internal plan to take Fla Tech TO Div I-AA over the next 10 years?? Who knows

Wish him all the luck!

From Florida Today:

Tech's program is to debut in 2013. Talks are ongoing over Tech competing in football only within the Division II Gulf State Conference.

Englehart joins a staff that includes Thomas, assistant coach Jayson Martin, who worked with Englehart while the latter was head coach at Division III Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and later succeeded him, and recruiting coordinator and former Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and Notre Dame University player Ray Herring.

Maybe it had something to do with his $45k salary he made at ISU?

This is why it is so crucial to start getting bigger crowds. I know it won't completely stop coach turnover, but when we can start paying our guys more, we'll keep them around a bit longer.

Of course the cost of living is higher in Florida, but he's probably going to make more than enough to cover the difference.

Like all of Florida, it depends on his proximity to water. Living "mainland" v. "oceanside" accounts for the primary difference. Since he's gonna be in S. Brevard (Melbourne), I'd be looking at housing in Melbourne Beach/Indialantic, just across the Melbourne Causeway (Hwy 192) & OCEANSIDE. If you're gonna live in FL, be near the BEACH! They call it "ocean to river" living, since the Indian River represents the western boundry. The S. Brevard beaches are also among the nicest PUBLIC beaches in Florida. The County has always purchased available oceanfront land for boardwalk, picnics & dressing/shower needs, as it feeds TOURISM from Orlando.

Does he have a family & children? Melbourne is a GREAT place to raise a family. Former ISU Baseball Recruiting Coordinator, Bob Doty, has been teaching & coaching @ Viera HS since leaving ISU. I think he's got a couple teenage boys he's grooming for baseball. Can't think of a better place...
