Curt Mallory has never backed down from a challenge. But then, knowing his family history, that's shouldn't come as any kind of a surprise.

What's wrong with saying "Will"?

Winless last year.

So you take it as one win? I take that statement as a winning program and to me, that means above .500 every year. Considering our program has never done that consistently, I don't want to hear it... I want to see it. I'm sick of hearing that the program is on the way up, they're going to win, yada yada. Fucking show me. Consistently.

This isn't solely football, either. All of our programs. Show me.

I think the point of the article is that he's not a stranger to winless seasons, and then turning it around to become a winning program.

Which I still don't like the premise. This is his first head coaching job.

Point being, I've got us down for 3 wins this season. I'm optimistic for the direction he has the program heading. I'm just done with the puff and fluff pieces. I'd much rather have read an introspective interview/article about his first year as a head coach, what he did right/wrong, what he plans on adjusting going forward and what sort of goals he has set for individual players, groups, units in building for a consistent winner.

That would have given me a LOT more into his head coach DNA. But that's just me.

A little Malcolm in the Middle video clip - this is good stuff.

I'm with Jason - I'm tired of empty promises. Since 2002 (15 seasons) we've had 4 seasons where we've been .500 or better. We've had 8 seasons where we've had 0 or 1 win. Let that sink in, E-I-G-H-T (8) seasons of zero or 1 win in the last 15 years. At least 4 different head coaches during that span. You can put whatever kind of label you want on my outlook - I couldn't care less.

I have great hope for the football program. I don't really know why, other than I really love college football. But the paradigm shift has to start somewhere, and I hope it's with Curt Mallory. And with leadership that sets all of our programs up to win. Pollyanna-ish? Probably. But I do love me some college football!!!

Who knows, 15 years from now, we might be saying that we haven't had a losing season in 15 years! Marshall football SUCKED for decades. Then they started winning National Championships and became a pretty darned good FBS program. I don't want to go FBS (money sucking hole), but ISU can turn it around. I choose to be optimistic! That might change come November, but for right now, let's do this!!!

The only ISU program that has had a winning season in, I think, two years is baseball. And it's 3-4 for most of them, including football. I agree. Enough talk. We need consistency. I'm tired of reading the same article every 4-5 years with a new football coach.

I am optimistic. I'm hopeful. I'm pretty confident we'll win some games this year, but we need winning seasons.

I disagree, I think you could care less. I think this post proves it.

Actually, I believe the correct usage is, I couldn’t care less. Meaning, you care so little that it’s not possible to care less. If you could care less, you’re admitting that you care a little bit.

Sounds like you want a dissertation on football philosophy instead of a short article on a school's athletic web sight. Totally different document in my mind. Maybe I expect mudroom form one and not enough from the other.

Sounds like a plan. Don't give me some watered down puff piece if you're trying to explain a coaches DNA. Give me details, give me substance.

FFS, some of you really need to raise your expectations from our school.

What ELSE can you produce when you 0-11? They haven't won a fricking game, Jason. Fluff is what you get, PERIOD. That's all there is. Read anything from the COLT's lately? SAME STUFF. From IU, SAME STUFF. WILL Win. That's it. I assume you'll skip over football soon and start complaining about hoops and their fluff pieces, because that is about ALL they can write. You might as well shut the place down because you don't care what else anyone has to say but you and your sidekick!

Shut the hell up with that nonsense. If you think it is so bad around here, the door is right over there.

Back to subject matter, I read pretty much all of the stuff for MVFC teams and their stories have had actual substance. Illinois State, for example, had great camp coverage. They talked specifically about certain players and their development, how they were standing out, etc.

Fans want specifics. This article gave pretty much 100% coach speak which would be great for the casual fan if we had any. He gave generalizations on recruiting better, practicing better, blah fucking blah. I'm sorry that you're okay with fluff. I'm not. Luke has been good in the fact he took us from ZERO coverage to some coverage. But now it is time to elevate it.

If they can't/won't provide it, I'll have no emotional investment in the team. That may work for some of you, but I'm expressing MY OPINION on what it takes to keep MY INVESTMENT in the program. If they're not willing to take suggestive criticism, so be it. I'll not buy any more tickets, merch and I'll quit following.
