There has been talk of several possible actions to take with Sycamores athletics, and most center around football. Any conference move would be for all sports.

I want to see your opinions. Please mark you preference and leave your rematks and suggestions.

Never never drop football. Either maintain or move to OVC but that would be for all sports. I really think we need to spend more in renovating the stadium. Most highly recruited players are going to look at our stadium and see the lack of importance from the university.

Eagle tree are you Jmv,1070 Am from Green county?? lol my ex wife is from Green county, they are basketball experts , not football experts lol.

Keep the MVC and MVFC separate as they are - this allows both to grow and make decisions appropriately within their interest.
MVC - add best fits in the valley region.
MVFC - add best fits in the valley region.
MVFC - explore move to the FBS... don't believe the irrational thinking that the P5 will break away - never will happen - not logical. ISU will build new stadium and be in it to make money. It can be done... The MVFC is consistently ranked higher than many FBS conferences already. Look at the costs of adding the scholarships and moving to FBS - makes sense/cents. New stadium on the way anyway.
MVC - should go to 14 and split into 2 divisions and select best basketball/academic powers/schools available.
The Big Valley.

On a side note: the new Performance Center (weight training) is better than some P5 schools weight facilities. Very nice and will help with recruiting... the new Hulman Center will be one of the best stadiums in Midwest.

Join the OVC and it's not even close for me.

Pros of joining OVC (not in order):

1) We compete better financially. (Would be third in basketball spending in OVC, are last in MVC.)
2) We could actually establish a winning tradition.
3) OVC is an all sports conference where we would play the same teams in every sport.
4) OVC is all public schools, besides Belmont.
5) Memorial Stadium is an average OVC stadium.
6) Hulman Center would be the best basketball arena in the OVC.
7) Travel is a little better, especially in football.
8) OVC tournament is in Evansville.
9) Immediate rivalry with Eastern IL.

Cons of joining OVC:

1) OVC is a one bid league in basketball. Now that Wichita is gone the MVC might be a one bid league now too however.
2) Murray State leaves the OVC and joins the MVC.
3) Only top 8 teams make the OVC tournament and the tournament protects the top 2 teams. This could be a pro however if we were a top team in the OVC.
4) SIU-Edwardsville is in the conference.
5) MVC would never take us back.

Pros of staying MVC / MVFC:

1) MVC is a better overall conference than the OVC.
2) Everyone makes the MVC tournament.

Cons of staying MVC / MVFC:

1) Hard to have a rivalry because we play different schools in our two major sports (basketball and football). There are only 4 schools we play in both basketball and football. In the OVC we would play 8 schools in both sports.
2) Travel to the Dakotas in football.
3) Private schools don't give a crap about our football team or anyone else's football team.
4) We don't compete financially (and competitively most seasons).

Drop it.

The program bleeds money perpetually without any consistent winning history.

If people cared about the program they would put their money where there mouth is and support the program financially. If that isn't going to happen then we should cut bait soon.

who is your source??

My source is one of the most passionate and loyal supporters of anything Sycamores!
My source is some of the membership right here at Sycamore Pride!!It is a vocal group of Sycamore fans. I believe it will grow in numbers in the next several months to become an active and influential group.

Well it wasn't me. I am by far the most passionate and loyal supporter ever! Not even close. There may by some with more money than I but none more passionate! Maybe it was SSOM he is pretty passionate but not to my level yet. Pretty good for his age however.

I think we could be long term competitive (compete for playoff spot yearly and occasionally win the conference) by either:
A. Stay in the MVFC, keep our budged the way it is compared to the conference, build an on campus stadium (I guess it doesnt have to be on campus but something comparable to ILSt or SIU) and start paying full cost scholarships on at least a case by case basis.

OR

B. Do what we are doing now and jump to the OVC

C. Wild card start a new conference for all sports with ISU, ISU, SIU, WIU, EIU, SEMO, Murray St, MoSt (I just like that because that is a schedule I could attend every game one day.)

I said it in a different thread that if we're keeping football that we should move to the Ohio Valley.

If we wish to stay in the MVC, then we drop football.

I'm not content with continuing to be the doormat while playing tenth fiddle in both conferences.

Great outline.

For those that voted the first option of maintain, can you please explain yourselves? You're okay with plodding along and being subpar in all of our programs? I could understand if you chose other where you wanted to maintain but with caveats but to simply select the first option just does not compute with me.

For example, in order for me to feel comfortable with staying in the MVC/MVFC, I'd want a public vote of confidence from the administration for the football program and the announcement of raising funds for a new stadium. That is the bare minimum it would take for me to stay on that ship.

I believe the OVC is a very practical option. I voted for it. The wild card, new conference is someting I have pondered for some time and I feel it to be the best option available. I just don'e see it happening.

As far as this thread is concerned, I hope that people take the poll seriously. As far as some of the other parts--well it's just another feeble attempt at humor. Ir is it???

You can take me off the list - wasn't me... lol

I voted to scrap it for the following reasons:

1. We have NEVER won a conference title. Not once. If nothing else this alone shows me that we need to be in a different conference.

2. We've been in our stadium since what the 1950's and it hasn't been renovated at all. They've just thrown some band-aids on it. New lights for our one night game that we had this year. New locker rooms a few years back. A practice field we don't even use anymore.

3. Alumni support is weak. They gave a token title this past off season Football Alumni Liaison to Tom James. Yet Jason goes on social media prior to the season and says he will match $$ to the football program if he reaches a certain level of support and they aren't able to even get to his easily attainable level. Year over year they cycle through the largest class of athletic alumni and yet a small % of them give back to the school.

4. Increase spending for the hoops program and see how we do. I think with a newly renovated Hulman Center, Wichita State out of the MVC and potentially a few years of winning basketball (yet to be determined) and you could have a program on the rise with a budgetary increase - without it and you will probably continue to see sporadic success at best.

But as long as they keep rolling out a team I will continue to buy my 3 season tickets and will continue to tailgate. I would like to see us win and thus keep the program but I have my doubts that we ever will.
