He'll probably have to drop back down to FCS, or go back to being an assistant somewhere. That was the problem with him bolting for a job like that. Not much of a safety net to fall back on.

Hope he lands on his feet. Was pulling for him at Ga St.
Will always owe him some graditude for pulling our program out of the abyss.

I think we all were rooting for him but at the same time this was a classic "the grass is always greener on the other side" situation. Sometimes it just doesn't turn out that way. Jumping to one of the worst Div 1A (FBS) schools in the bottom league in FBS might have been a stretch judgement. He also knew (and we knew too) that his players at ISU the following year were going to fall way short of competitive so his record the next year possibly would NOT be hire-worthy. Tough situation for sure but he might have been better off staying at ISU for 2-3 more years. We wish him well and hope he finds what he wants.

How much longer do we give Sanford? Two straight abysmal losing seasons in a row. How did we go from having a great 2014 season and a Playoff win to a losing 2015 and 2016 seasons. Should not go backwards like that unless were trying to go another 30 years without making the Playoffs.

Honestly, Kos, I don't know what to think about Coach Mike. The dilemma I am dealing with is that I know him and like him. I always have and I know he is well liked by most people. Performance-wise you'd have to look at his won-loss record as well his player discipline and game strategies and all of a sudden you begin to wonder. I am sure a lot of you have opinions and I would love to see some. He has some blue-chip recruits coming in and who knows? Deep down I'd like to give him one more year but I am sure some on here will say no way. Time will tell. Time to take a deep breath.

I pretty much agree with Bally. He is a good person and very likeable. Sadly, that doesn't win games in the MVFC. I believe he has 1 or 2 more years to produce a winner. At times I wonder how bottom feeders in the Valley would do in average FCS conferences. This team would have been a contender in the bottom feeder FCS conferences. Somehow I feel SC will give him 1 more season and 2 if there is marked improvement next year. Part of marked improvement would have to include more disciplined game. We can't afford another year with a #99 attitude.

I TOTALLY agree with the discipline area (particularly #99, as it became quite costly in multiple games, if not all of them). I like your 1+1 scenario. Show some improvement next year or else.

He was guaranteed $2 million per the AJC for his time at Georgia State and that was before the school raised his salary last year in line with the other Sun Belt programs.

He would have had to coach 10 years at State to get what he was guaranteed by Georgia State for signing his name once... I don't care what color the grass is or if it's your alma mater you'd be leaving, you take that and make sure your family is set financially. He'll likely have to "fall back" to being an assistant somewhere unless he does drop back down to FCS and find a program that would let him take the helm. I'd have taken the job and ran, too.

Of course, it was the money that got him to jump ship. The world is full of coaches not ready for the big time that jump for the bottom line ($) and we'll never slam him for it but sometimes you wonder if it's worth it. He's likely been under severe stress the entire time at GS and one good year doesn't eliminate it either. With his resume, an assistant coach job if he can find one, might end up maybe a lot closer to his head coach salary at ISU. It might be just me but sometimes money isn't everything. Even when he was coach of the year, they were complaining down there. It may be greener but is always subject to weeds and dandelions.

Unfortunate for Coach Miles, and the assistant coaches that he still had with him from ISU. Clearly Georgia State had higher expectations that what reality probably was. We saw and talked for quite a while to Coach Miles after their (very competitive) game at Wisconsin this year. He was in good spirits and didn't seem overly stressed, but that was several weeks ago. He is a very strong-minded person, and that sometimes led to conflicts with some of his assistant coaches, but where doesn't that happen? We are very grateful for the opportunity he provided to our sons, who weren't highly recruited, and both found a nice program and some success at ISU under his helm. I sincerely hope he lands in a good place; he has a lot to offer and certainly puts his heart into his job.

As far as Coach Sanford, the 2015 season was an anomoly with losing their 2 best players essentially for the season, and having multiple other significant injuries--without that, I'm confident it would have been at least a 2-year playoff run, and this past season would have been a rebuilding year.

Wonder who was complaining? No one went to the games. Of course that doesn't stop the complaining here.....lol

Part of the problem was that they played in the Georgia Dome and it holds 70K. Certainly they had unreal expectations and a bunch of hard core alums touting him as the next great thing...and then pow, he's struggling like the last coach. Now they are putting some serious bucks into the old Turner Field to convert it from a baseball stadium to a 30K stadium for soccer/football. (where have we heard that scenario)? I guess they felt they needed an upgrade with the coach. I wish him the best, as most of us do. We'll see how it ends up. Part of me wishes he would return to his alma mater.

I have an issue with Sanford and his staff allowing a key player like Adam to go under academically. I'm sure the player didn't do his part, but it's the program's job to ensure he does. I have also heard rumblings that the overall character quality of recruited players has declined under Sanford.

Now that Coach Mike's son is the HC at Western Kentucky, we cannot rule out a father-son reunion. Coach Mike could probably make as much as OC there as he does here, maybe even as QB coach, with a lot fewer headaches. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Even if Coach Sanford did leave to join his son at WKU, I'm not so sure Miles would be welcomed back with open arms as I'd imagine Clink would want to make his own hire.
