Tates Locke was a hoot! I took "Fundamentals of Coaching Basketball" from him - one of my all time favorite classes. Got to hear a lot from one of our most colorful coaches, and also got to spend some time with "legendary" St. John's assistant (and Lou Carnesecca's right hand man) Al Lobalbo. Good times...:wordyo:

The Athl Department, Alumni Association doesn't maintain these lists?

Answer:
No more than 1/4 of an ounce of egg, 3/4 of an ounce of milk, and .5 ounces of flour makes a Gigantic Biscuit.

You are talking about Indiana State University, correct? Our ISU?

This is the same college that can hardly sell season, and individual games tickets out of the HC.

This is the same athletic department that allowed us to set some kind of losing record in NCAA football, the same athletic department that gave us...26 losing seasons in basketball for the last 32+ years?

And the same athletic department that hired an underqualified, un-trained, inexperienced, washed out girls basketball coach from Hutsonville, Ill,....... who was and out and open lesbian AD, that loathed ISU Men's Athletics.

How is this 30+ year legacy of incompentency going to maintain, any kind of AA list...oh my, I'm ROTFLMAO.

Matta lives in Columbus, Ohio

I saw one of his graduate assistants on TV the other day. I think the announcer said that he was the head basketball coach at Ohio State. The guy's name is Matta, or something like that. Anyway, I think he lives in Columbus, Ohio.

I disagree. This is not the same athletic department.

This is the athletic department that hired Greg Lansing and Trent Miles.

This athletic department is headed by Ron Prettyman.

This is a different athletic department than the one we're used to. Do they have the compiled list of former student athletes that we'd like them to have, probably not. But it's not THIS athletic department that dropped that dropped the ball on accumulating that type of information...and I believe that THIS athletic department is working to reverse the damage of our previous athletic departments.

Wow, I just noticed the comment about "out and open lesbian AD".

How does that have anything to do with anything? Some of the closed mindedness by our fans on this site is getting real old real fast.

You guys need to chill. People say things. Get over it. There's no right to go through life un-offended...

That wasn't my point.
If Ron was gayer than a three dollar bill and still did his job as well as he does currently, I wouldn't care. Wouldn't give a crap and I really don't think it matters.

My only comments on some of the above thoughts....

is that when it came to keeping in touch with former student-athletes, it was not this athletic department administration that dropped the ball.

That was done by several previous athletic administrations, not just the one mentioned by a previous writer. You can blame the administrations of Beanie Cooper and Brian Faison as well.

I have helped, and am being helped by, the current athletic administration in compiling lists of email address, home addresses, phone numbers, cell phone numbers of former student athletes.

Right now I am helping with former football, baseball and men's basketball players. And I have talked with John McNichols about helping him put together a list of former cross country and track student athletes.

I started out with football because that was the sport that I was closest to during my time at Indiana State.

We had so much success that John Newton asked me to do the same with baseball because of my work with the baseball program at Indiana State. I have copied and forwarded all my baseball alumni player information to Coach Heller.

After running into some former men's basketball players, I began compiling that list. Coach Lansing is putting together lists of former hoops players and I amcopying/ forwarding all my information to him.

The biggest reason why this hasnt been done before by the athletic department is a relatively simple one. No one has ever taken the time to do it. And that's not an indictment of anyone in particular. It just takes a lot of time to research and compile the lists.

In between Colts seasons, the NFL combine, the NFL Draft, and spring/summer Colts mini-camps and training camps, I have some extra time to do it. And, most importantly, I enjoy doing it.

You might call it a labor of love. I loved working at Indiana State and I miss it. So this keeps me involved with the athletic department from a distance. I really like tracking these people down and getting them back involved in the athletic programs once again.

TJames, I would like to personally thank you for your effort in this project of re-connecting past athletes with not only the Dept. Of Athletics, but ISU in general.
