Apparently those votes weren't received well by some other valley fans...I was reading from one fan that,"I suppose they'd never make these voter ballots public, eh? Because Indiana State receiving first-place votes is ASININE. It had to be the dweeby beat writer and a couple of Terre Haute "press" personnel that dropped the ball on that one."
Amazing that you can come in third place but we still aren't worthy of any sort of respect. Silliness.

I have to laugh at all the name calling that goes on within fan message boards, including SycamorePride.

O yeah but this place is pretty tame in comparison to some others I have seen. GRANTED PEOPLE, I don't care how we compare to other message boards, we should always strive to be better.
 
I've seen opposing fans rip Sycamore fans for being overly optimistic and supportive of their team - like that's a bad thing. Then they go to the opposite extreme of giving us absolutely no respect. It is silly.
 
I have to be honest, I love it when they say crap like that. It makes it that much sweeter when ISU beats the:censored:out of them.
 
Without a doubt had to be a Shocker fan still in denial.....We have to remember they have nothing else to do in the fall but bash other schools.

I do find the nonstop Odum-is-the-greatest posts from SSOM and Landrus on MVCFans amusing. There is obvious homerism going on there, but what is wrong with that? That's what a fan is supposed to do. Really gets under their (opposing fans - mostly WSU fans) skin though, which is perfect! They expect nonstop adoration for their teams from opposing fans, which is idiotic. Sycamore fans have every reason to be high on their team right now.

who noticed / ENJOYED the Commish pointing out that we beat the NIT champion and MVC Regular Season Champ in Arch Madness in the ESPN TV Schedule release??

Agree that the chatter from the other schools makes thumping em sweeter;
Carl, Jordan, Dwayne, Jake and the rest of the Trees need to build on last season; have another successful season; keep the momentum rolling!

Yeah, they act like by thinking Odum is a good point guard that Indiana State fans are off their rockers. And then comments like this happen;

"It's posts like jlandrus' that further cement the disdain many people have towards the Indiana State fanbase. Jake Odum can do no wrong. He is better than anybody. Indiana State got lucky on a weekend and thus is superior to anything or anybody that has set foot on a basketball court. I would lose no sleep if the Sycamores settled back down to a normal spot in the Valley for them and see another team and fans with more realistic ideas and expectations to put in their place."
Yeah and MVCfans welcomes sycamore fans with open arms, my ass.
 
I'm just a promoting JO13 thats all. I mean the Creighton fans did it to the point that they now have a player that is to be considered head and shoulders above JO and the rest of the MVC for that matter. I figure its partly my responsability as a fan to make sure that Odum stays part of the conversation. I mean hell for about 6 months I had to convince people on this very Sycamore forum that he was going to be the next great Sycamore PG. Can't tell you how many times some uneducated Sycamore responded on here telling me JO isn't the second coming of anyone... Whatever, he's already established himself as one of the est PG's in our history. His season last year is one to remember, the story is even better... I can tell it for you all if you want that?

What's your basis? Not looking to start an argument but that's a bold statement. Not discounting it; just curious as to your foundation.

Crunched his assist numbers for last season: 4.1 apg; 1.85/1 assist/turnover rate... for point of comparison, the top 10 apg for State are:

1. Jim Smith, 1976-77 ................... 7.4
2. Steve Reed, 1978-79 ................ 7.0
3. Jim Smith, 1977-78 ................... 6.9
4. Rick Fields, 1985-86 .................. 5.8
5. Larry Bird, 1978-79 ................... 5.5
Steve Reed, 1979-80 .................... 5.5
7. Steve Reed, 1980-81 ................. 5.4
Michael Menser, 1997-01 ............... 5.4
9. Rick Fields, 1982-83 .................. 5.2
10. Carl Nicks, 1978-79 .................. 5.0

One thing I notice in today's game (that didn't exist for the 10 above...)

Both the propensity of players, esp guards to palm, carry, double-dribble the ball AND the referee's refusal to call it.

So, would Jake O have been able to play in the 1970s? Would Steve Reed be able to play in the 2010s??

Hate to compare players across eras, much too hard; also not a fan of GoAT! claims... why? game has changed so much

Mvcfans.com SUCKS. It's no better than Valleytalk was. Just stay away, and you don't have to put up with self important jackwagons like most Shucker and Blue Jay fans. You will be welcomed with open arms, though, if you do two things - 1) worship at the altar of the Almighty WSU athletic juggernaut, and 2) bow down before the Creighton elites who, quite simply, are our betters. Oh yeah, you also can never, ever express boundless optimism for anything related to ISU. That's a cardinal sin...

It's posts like that that elevate things to an extreme that doesn't exist. He's built it up in his mind. Yes, Sycamore fans are optimistic, but I don't see many claiming we can't be beat or are going to win the conference with no trouble. Glad it upsets him though. From everything I've ever read from that particular poster he's nothing but a sad loser.

What's truly sad is that these guys will complain about this...about this thread being started but simply stick your head over at mvcfans or shockernet. You will see much much worse than anything we talk about over here such as, "Isuck" "Terre truckstop"...rise above I guess.

My foundation is simple, what Jake Odum brings to the table goes beyond what his numbers will show you. For a Freshman PG to take a team to the big dance is a great accomplishment in it of its' self. His numbers were not to shabby either, for a freshman PG to lead the league in steals and be in the top 2 in the league (first during league play) in assists is outstanding. Your assists numbers are great to look at, however it doesn't fully represent what Jake brings to the game. I don't know what kind of leaders some of those guys were, maybe you cane share? All I can tell you is when he was put in a position to start and lead this team he did it - he took a team that was picked to finish 7th in the Valley and made us a serious threat to win and we finished 3rd. Did he do it alone? Hell naaa, but would we have done it without him? Hell naaa!
