Fox Sports 1 kicks of Saturday. With the nation having an almost insatiable appetite for sports, it is almost guaranteed to be successful, but will it be even close to knocking of ESPN? I for one think they have a shot.

ESPN is now to sports what MTV is to music, that is they areva far cry from how they started. Like MTV with music, ESPN has gotten further and further from sports and more and more into reality shows, entertainment shows and advocacy. Will take awhile, but if Fox Sports 1 has some strong, talented personalities that know sports and sticks to sports, I think people will buy in.

I will certainly give their highlight show a chance given how Sportscenter has really worn out the "jokes" and one liners during the highlights. I bet Fox Sports 1 can double their viewership any night that Stewart Scott or Chris Berman are doing highlights.

What does everyone else think? Will it be a success? How big, and how soon?

Purdue fans, join in!

There is plenty of room for Fox Sports 1, no doubt about it. However, many of the cable companies and DirecTV and DishNet are balking at carrying them because unlike the ESPN family, they want MORE money for the outlets to carry it. Their big "debut" will be seriously tainted by many of the big outlets refusing to show it over $$$. We'll see but even though I am anxious for an ESPN alternative, I doubt I will pay the $10-12 bucks that it will take per month to carry it.

IMO, Fox Sports 1 is making a big mistake.

Couldn't agree more !! I cannot watch the homerun derby during the MLB all-star break because of Chris Berman. I cannot stand that windbag. Shut-Up and call the damn homerun !!

Why would it cost $10-12 bucks to carry it? The Big Ten Network was like $0.50 per household. I'd imagine that Fox has a lot more negotiating clout to boot. Are you talking about it being put into a package with other channels?

I'm on Comcast and we got a note in our bill awhile back saying it would simply replace the Speed channel.

I've been trying to find out if it (FS1) will be on ANY channel on DishNet and so far, nothing. In a separate article, I read it is possible it will be on the Multi-Sport Pack which currently runs $11 a month. Nothing concrete though. I have checked the programming grid every day for some time and at this point, but so far nothing for DishNet.

I watch ESPN for some quick SportsCenter fixes, but otherwise it is becoming unwatchable. They are losing viewership by the month, and they continue to act like it's a non-issue. All the while they continue to give guys like Skip Bayless airtime. They can also act like they don't have an east coast bias, but that's just laughable.

Truth is, if I want to watch something the NFL I watch the NFL Network. If I want to watch something MLB-related, I watch the MLB Network. I watch ESPN for SportsCenter and Monday Night Football; that's about it. I'll occasionally tune in for NFL Countdown and College GameDay, but I watch 75% less of ESPN than I did five years ago.

Anyway, I suppose my point is that ESPN sucks and Fox Sports 1 has a great opportunity to swoop in and grab a huge portion of viewers. However, if they tailor the network like their horrible website, Fox Sports 1 will be a huge failure.

ESPN = Eastern Seaboard Programming Network.

I absolutely can't stand ESPN anymore. Outside of their 30 for 30 series, it's complete rubbish. I can't even watch Sports Center anymore. Most of the programming is current/former sports journalists acting like Howard Stern or some other shock jock using the platform to try and get into radio/TV. There is no possible way Skip Bayless, Colin Cowherd or any of their other talking heads believe the verbal diarrhea that flows from their pie holes. What is sad is they do have some good folks like Scott Van Pelt who doesn't seem to go for shock value with every show and he gets piss poor time slots or taken off the air altogether -- don't believe his show is on here anymore in Indy.

I welcome and will tune into the Fox Sports channel. I hope they are the anti-ESPN but if they try to replicate the same formula, they'll quickly get the boot and the only time either will get my eyeballs is when there is a game on I want to watch.

Agree with pretty much everything said on here. I find myself more and more watching ESPN (doesn't really matter what sport or show) and asking myself "how did this person get on the air?" Gameday was decent, but now with Michael Irvin and Keyshawn Johnson, it blows (I don't care what Michael Irvin has to say about anything, anytime, anywhere). Who watches Tony Kornheiser or Skip Bayless? And Keith Olbermann? Really?! pretty much everywhere he has worked he has left with every co-worker hating him, and now now they bring him back?

Like someone else said, DirecTV will have Fox Sports 1 on what is currently the SPEED channel (when they reach a deal, which they will). I don't know where FS 2 will be. I just hope it does well. Really looking for an alternative to ESPN. I have grown very tired of them. They seem to only be interested in the 14-29 age demo.

There is a market for Fox Sports, but they just have to make sure they don't try to be a hipper version of ESPN. Stick to the sports and the facts, and they will do well.

Yeah, not that impressed with the first couple of days of Fox Sports 1; in fact, I thought it sucked. Your first day on the air and you fill the entire day NASCAR and UFC programing. I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish with that. If they weren't going to change the programming from the Speed Network, they should have just kept the channel as-is.

I also have no desire to listen to Randy Moss or Brian Urlacher mumble about football. They were very hard to listen to during the Colts/Giants game last night.

I'll give Fox Sports 1 the benefit of the doubt since they're still working out the kinks, but I certainly thought they would come out of the gate a little faster than they did.

Well I love Nascar and hate UFC but that is besides the point.

Yeah I was totally unimpressed by the Fox Sports Live show - in fact it sucked! The guys doing the highlights were awful! Trying to be funny and they were not.

Yeah, they're not funny.

I've never been impressed with the Fox Sports website as they've tried to becoming a sports and pop culture-based site. They tend to miss the mark on both. I hope they don't try and make their station similar. I mean, I like cheerleaders and all but I don't need Fox Sports 1 giving me a countdown of the 50 hottest cheerleaders in the NFL. I'd rather they provide me with interesting and thoughtful analysis of the sports for which I care.

On a side note, my comment was meant as no disrespect to those that like NASCAR or UFC. They are both fine in their own right, but to market the crap out of the new channel and then start your first day with all day programming covering two sports that are less than mainstream seemed kind of foolish. I woke up on Saturday morning and thought, hhmmm, I'll turn it to Fox Sports 1 and see what their morning show is like (thinking they had their own "SportCenter" show). Instead I found NASCAR and hours of NASCAR programming thereafter.

just a quick post in case anyone is interested. NDSU at Kansas St open their college football seasons on FS1 Friday Aug. 30 in Prime Time

see ya

I watched the Fox Live show this morning. I'm not sure what I was watching exactly. Was it a highlight show (ala sportscenter) or was it a roundtable show (Best Damn Sports Show). At one point they had Mike Tyson on and interviewed him (apparently for some sort of show he has on the network). I wanted to see scores from baseball and football which i did get eventually. But overall I didn't walkaway saying I need to turn it on tomorrow.
