There is actually quite a difference between greyshirting and redshirting. Redshirting athlete continues to have a scholarship pay for his tuition/books/room and board, etc. A Greyshirt does not. A greyshirt is not guarenteed a scholarship when he/she becomes active. Greyshirt actually has NO affiliation with the team per NCAA regulations...typically, with football, a greyshirt becomes elgible to participate with the team during spring semester when his scholarship is activated.
