Hardly the best, and I doubt anyone, even here, would disagree. He just wants to make the loss sound better. "Oh they're too good" is a common excuse for any game you lose. Nothing really wrong with it, most people do it. He just did it publicly.

Well, Debbie Downer, I disagree...we lost to Drake in OT (at Drake)...other than that, we've beat two top 20 teams in the span of one week and have won six of seven games...other than Miami (who might be the next #1 team the the country and whose last loss was to ISU) we might be the hottest team in the country. CBS, ESPN, and SI all agree...all eyes are on the Sycamores. Fact.

Right, we're doing great right now and we could be #1. I just don't think we're quite there yet. Don't want to sound all pessimistic, but I really don't think we should take this as too big of a compliment. Maybe I'm just looking too far into his words though.
 
The hottest team team in the country doesn't beat a team that has only won two games in the league by one point, at home, and trail in the game for about 38 of 40 minutes. The hottest team in the country doesn't sleepwalk through half the game.

Fyi - i would say Illinois State might be the hottest team in the league right now ( won five out of their last six, only loss was a game they led all the way through until last four minutes). Their game against Creighton on ESPN2 tonight, we shall see how they play.

Consider me an Illinois State fan tonight! But we are the hottest team in the league. An ugly win is a win. Good teams win ugly. Two of our last three wins have been double digit wins over ranked teams. Can't beat that.

I agree that it still counts as win and I will be more than happy to take it. I would not consider todays game evidence that we are a "hot" team though, in any sense of the word.

You know what I kept thinking today during the game? I kept thinking about the number of times we, for example, led a league leading team throughout a game, only to fall short because they were the better team. Then I thought, WE are the league leading team now, and we are the better team, and this time, they'll fall short.

We've turned the corner, fans. I think winning today like we did is far more significant than if we'd won by 20 points today. This was huge. This is exactly why we are a "hot" team... we trailed 99% of that game, but led when it counted. THAT'S the sign of a damn good team...which we are.

It will be interesting to see if this trend continues with the coming games. Hopefully, for our sake, it does.
 
If we win in Springfield on Tuesday, amd look half decent doing it, I will be more inclined to believe we have turned some type of corner. However recent history from this season tells me it is just as likely we play like dog crap and come home with our tail between our legs. We just dont give consistent efforts on the road this year.

Tough to win on the road in college hoops. Top 10 teams in the nation 0-5 on the road this week - or something to that effect.

Big road get for IL State tonight. Who wants to play them in St. Louis right now. Not I said the Sycamore.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. The Bluejays came in as the nation's top 3-point shooting team but missed 16 of their first 18 attempts. Their four 3s were a season low. :laugh:
